@julie@merida.hair SO MUCH THIS. I've been saying for years that if you can't relate, empathize or make life easier for your users, the best security plans will completely fall apart because those plans will be resoundingly ignored or worked around.

Joy of the day: Seeing a local hummingbird cleaning the windows of cobwebs for nest building purposes.

Also, never really got to hear one flying before, and just happened to have the windows open. They sound like little lightsabers waving around!

Searching through this drawer set I rescued out of a building getting cleaned out, in search of some 7805s, and now I'm remembering that the reason I grabbed it is that it has so many oddball and rare motorola transistors and oddball JFETs from the 80s/90s. I think I have more TO-3 LM317s than I know what to do with!

Going through LEDs for this little tinkering effort of mine, and there's something perfect about going through my boxes of various colors, looking for what feels right for what basically is a one off homebrew creation. I'm in my happy place.

@mcc@mastodon.social @scruss@xoxo.zone It largely ended up on some commercials, but didn't fit into any of the on-air formats in the US so got ignored. IMHO, Spybreak, OHMSS, and History Repeating hold up the album, with Take California coming up from behind. The rest of it, I don't give much of a listen. I should go look at Disc 2, I don't think I've ever heard that.

Now...if I could only remember what the heck it is I did to make apt-cacher-ng actually cache Alpine packages last time, I'd be a lot happier.

Been mucking about with getting a Forgejo VM set up this morning so I am managing my little snippets of software a bit better than the git repo zfs volume thing I've been doing for years, and I have to say I'm impressed with how easy it was to setup.

Spent the afternoon moving furniture around so I haven't done much with it yet, but I suspect that's coming.

This is what I get for not printing anything since mid-February. Also, apparently I need to plug all the holes in the enclosure and get on the printer GPIO triggered end-of-job cooling fan setup.

Over 25 years of dealing with bitwise operators and if I don't deal with them regularly (which is pretty much usually the case these days), I have to look up how that shit works and re-learn it every single time.

It's a small thing, but you'd think it'd stick eventually...

House network reconfiguration day for me today due to equipment failures and some changing office/lab equipment needs.

Turns out to work around this failed multigig SFP+, it was cheaper to get a 5-port 2.5gbit / 10g uplink managed switch than it was to replace it. 2.5/5/10 gbase-whatever SFP are abominations anyway, so it seemed like a good move, so that's what I did.

And, I'm unsurprisingly having fewer problems with the 2.5g NIC plugged into it than I did before, even with the extra step of uplinking to the 10gbit core in the basement. This will at least free up the other switch in the office to be moved elsewhere in the house to do things it would be a better fit for, and going back to the EX2200C for the radio/lab bench in the office with a separate uplink to the core.

Not generally a fan of extra network stuff just to have it around, but this is making sense to do.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Yeah, DTE and their contractors are fucking garbage, and always will be. The worst part is, the MPSC lets them get away with whatever they want, more or less.

@sen@hachyderm.io TIL, thank you for posting it. And assuming we haven't knocked ourselves back to longbows and polearms by then, 500 years from now, starships to space station comms will have that as part of their communication system, and nobody's going to know why, but they know it has to be in there because that's the way it's always been.

@jevidl@ono-sendai.jevidl.net Yes, because even though they're "attached" to the bridge, they're still interfaces in their own right, and can have packet processing rules applied to them, and IIRC can still have other things hang off them as well

The rest of my brain, making up stuff to fit the TMNT song/logo: Heh, "funky chicken dating service" fits.
