Keep in mind the Speccy is probably something like 10 times slower than the 68K Macintosh or Atari ST. With many times less RAM. And no co-processors for, well, anything.

Massive respect for the guys who, immediately upon receiving their new #Jolla phone, tore it down for an #Ifixit article. They were doing this at the actual launch event on the balcony with dozens watching!

There has been some chatter here about Finnish #smartphone company #Jolla's ownership. The CEO just gave an interview to Kauppalehti describing the company restructuring that occurred a couple years back, and unequivocally states there is no Russian ownership anymore. Full captable is included.
Hopefully that settles it for everyone.

Belgium's appeal is dismissed by #FIFA because "the Belgian FA is not a party to the proceedings and, as such, has no standing to appeal the decision". I mean yeah, it directly affects the #WorldCup match the US will be playing against them, but that's just too bad.
There is, of course, no other party who would appeal.

Test drove the #PV5 today and #Kia really has nailed it with this 5-seater van bodied #EV. The outer dimensions are almost identical to a Tesla M3, but there is vast amounts of space inside. Everyone can sit comfortably, loads of room for animals, hauling firewood, whatever. The interior is suitably utilitarian, which I like, and visibility is superb (apart from A pillars). I also dig the cyber exterior styling. It’s not fast, but what a package. And for that price too. Like driving the future.

#Tesla’s #Elon #Musk admits that #FSD does not seem possible with the older HW3 hardware and will require camera and computer updates. I’ve been saying this for years and, if I’m honest, I don’t think HW4 can do it either. Not in the sense of full autonomy (which is how FSD was always sold as a vision).

It’s ridiculous that drivers have to put up with this kind of nonsense for completely ill-conceived ‘safety’ features. The #EU needs to remove this requirement. They have become actual #safety detractors as they cause major distraction. Everything was brought into law without any major public discussion.
I can only guess #Israel company #MobileEye lobbied heavily for this, as they have a virtual monopoly on several aspects.

@thisismissem @nileane yes, as mentioned, attacks on individual instances are possible. But actually stopping Mastodon as a service would require successfully attacking all the thousands of instances. Extremely unlikely. Even a significant portion would be difficult. Arguably more difficult than on BlueSky.
While Mastodon relays do exist, not even close to all instances use them. And even those that do would continue operating in normal P2P fashion if a relay went down.

@thisismissem @nileane I don’t disagree with most of those points at all. But it’s a big step from having some instances down to complete systemwide meltdown, as we have seen on BlueSky (or very close to it anyway).
So I do disagree on that one crucial point: the federated nature does in fact make it more magically resilient to attacks. Indeed any decentralised, distributed system is going to be more resilient.
That’s not to say there isn’t more that could be done.
Finally caught the new #RunningMan. Good old fashioned fun with many nods to past and current matters. Recommended for easy, silly entertainment.

Risky gambit: bought new #iPhone 17 mere days before they launch new phones. But apparently they don't plan to launch an 18 now (just 18 Pro) and the 17 has some excellent offers... (paid €735 for it here in Finland).
Will I regret it?
Huge compared to my old 13 Mini :( Not happy about that. And setup so far been buggy as hell.

@thisismissem @nileane except that they wouldn’t. It would be close to impossible to take down Mastodon due to the federated way in which it works. You would have to attack thousands of servers.
So sure, individually an instance could be taken down, but as a service Mastodon would continue to run.

Great idea by #Ferrari to create the sound of an #EV car by using the vibrations of an actual accelerometer linked to the drive. Thus creating more authentic noise to give aural drive feedback. I’d go further still and hook a straight live wire to an amp, electric guitar style. A really raw vibration.
Also interesting to see they’ve used a similar wiper setup as the #Cybertruck (which everyone laughed at but I guess it’s cool now that Ferrari did it).
