My son's friend was recently drafted by the NY Yankees. It will be fun to watch how it goes.

In my state of PA, many data centers have been/are being built/are proposed. Since PA is the largest exporter of electricity to other states, and since there are quite a few abandoned factories and in areas, relatively cheap land, it makes it an attractive location. Additionally, a huge number of warehouses are going up, while shopping malls are being repurposed/redeveloped as commercial activity has moved on-line and PA's location is pretty good from a distribution perspective.

During the depression, my grandfather, never stopped looking for work for nearly 3 years, working odd jobs inbetween. This guy is spent after what?; 3 months? Grow a pair, you wimp. Here is the article if you want to be amused. https://www.cnbc.com/2026/08/02/why-people-are-dropping-out-of-the-workforce-and-not-looking-for-new-jobs-the-market-wore-me-down.html

Then there is a paragraph, where they talk about this guy stopping his job search, after a mere 300 hours and after reaching out for "dozens" of positions and having 15 interviews, later it states it stopped bcuz it was making him moody. I lost a job when a company got hammered in late 2008. It took me 40 weeks, hundreds of resume's and 50 interviews before I landed one. To me the idea of giving up because its emotionally difficult, is ludicrus and the attitude of a loser.2/3

Im visiting my parents. They allowed themselves to get really old. Many things need fixing/attention. I fixed a drawer in the kitchen. It cost 16 dollars in parts, 2 hours of labor, 13 oh shits and 3 f bombs before I finally had it fixed. While here my aunt (mother's sister) called. Her great granddaughter just had a baby. I would guess that 5 living generations is a rare thing. At the rate my kids are going, id have to live to 200 to see a great great grandchild.

For years, I hardly knew anybody having babies. Now, suddenly, I know many people having them. I hope this is widespread and not just my particular isolated experience and that perhaps the birth rate has bottomed out and will start to recover.

Goats need copper and zinc. Normally they can get that from a salt lick. But we have one goat that won't touch anything with zinc in it. Then he gets a deficiency and his hair falls out. Early last week wife tried zinc cough drops. Now that's his new favorite thing and his hair is already starting to grow back. Hopefully it want cause some other problem. We checked the ingredients and doesnt seem it will.

I made this dumb playhouse for the goats nearly 10 years ago. They seem to like it. Without some attention, it won't last much longer, mostly because they ate the roof off. IF I replace it, I'll skip the delicious asphalt and go with metal or hard plastic or something.

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz I am not a boomer. I started out dirt poor and have gotten quite rich and have had many huge set backs, I didn't get over any of them by giving up and giving in to discouragement (though had plenty of opportunities to do so) And the whole story is about people that have given up.

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz Coddling isn't empathy. I empathize with how hard it is, but not with the idea that one is somehow justified in giving up. That is a pussy move. And comiserating with somebody in that position, without pointing that out, is NOT kindness. We all need to be hit upside the head with a 2x4 once in a while. And, the odds of somebody ever getting me against a wall are pretty slim. I'll die fighting before I give up.

@cjd@pkteerium.xyz There is some truth to what you say, but I worked 2 full time jobs for 2 years along with a part time job on the weekends, then a job and a half for 3 years following that. My grandfather worked 3 jobs his entire life. My father was a chemist and worked a second job the first 12 years of his married life. In the 50's my grandparents had one car, a 1000 sf house, on a 1200 square foot lot. no a/c, no dishwasher, no microwave and they never flew on a plane. It wasn't as rosy as all that

@Java@freeatlantis.com I dont think she's looking for bargains. Our business had a stellar year last year. Doubling our previous record. Its basically a miracle and not likely to ever happen again. Im adding the extra to our investments over time. I think she's trying to spend as much of it as she can b4 I get it locked up. So it seems we're getting our wood floors refinished, new carpet, some landscaping and landscape lighting, reupholstering some furniture and our kids are going to have a glorious christmas.

The day may come when I surrender and hire someone to cut my grass. But today is not that day. One day I may sit on the porch and watch another endure the agony of hundreds of feet of weed wacking but not today. Today I soldier on. Besides it gives me something to moan to my wife about. In spite of her protestations, I'm pretty sure she likes it when I grumble.

Genocide used to mean the systematic eilmination of a national, racial, or ethnic group.

Now it means that the side I don't like is creating victims of war.

the word is tossed around in ridiculous ways by ridiculous people.

I think Wife and I just had an argument.

Her: Do you have to be so loud?
Me: WHAT?!
Her: DO YOU HAVE TO BE SO LOUD?
Me: you want to see my penis again?
Her: you are being weird beyond your usual weirdness, which is plenty weird enough
Me: You cant get enough? You're gonna be the death of me.
Her: just never mind.

I think I won this one.

We've had the same accountant for personal and our business for well over 20 years. He wasnt young when we first engaged him. So today I asked him how old he was. He replied that he was 80 years old but not to worry about it, cuz his partner is much younger;70.

@Tony@clew.lol my last house was built in 1840 and full of plaster. I had to replace wiring and you aren't kidding. The saw vibrating the lath can crumble an entire wall in seconds. I braced along the studs and cut between them but I still had many problems. On the upside, I got really good at plastering.

@csb@podcastindex.social Why would it fall apart? The claim is that he made man in his image, why would that necessarily apply to another? And in his image, doesn't mean in his likeness. It's not referring to physical likeness, since God discribes himself as spirit and not physical.

@interfluidity@zirk.us there's things that happens. People get rich, at first they realize that they are just rich, not special. Then they come to believe that being rich as made them special, finally the come to believe that they are rich BECAUSE they are special. Thats when the condescension toward and the disdain for the great unwashed begins. Shortly after that they set out to use their specialness to control everybody else "for their own good" this is when ANYTHING else becomes an improvement

@Bleukitty @spinneria Dandelions don't bother me much, the sheep and goats will eath them. This is what is killing me, it takes over the pasture really fast and they won't eat it. Where it's thickest in the sheep pasture, I fenced it off and cleared the ground and re-seeded. It spreads like crazy, each stalk produces thousands of seeds.

@spinneria Yes, In one area where I thought I could get away with it, I burned it out, There are multiple methods, and I am using different ones in different places, depending on where it is and what it's used for. It's spread around, but if pulled all together, I have over an acre of it. 2 years ago, I had none. Once gone, you have to plant stuff that will grow thick and stop it from spreading, in the meantime, while new planting is growing, you have to manually pull new stiltgrass growth.

@realcaseyrollins@noauthority.social From my experience, women are very astute at detecting underlying emotions and are also attracted to confidence (obviously generalizations). This being the case, it's quite likely that a fear of rejection will lead to more rejection. Rejection is certainly part of the process and a neccessary one in finding a fit. It isn't easy, and sometimes really hurts, but it doesn't kill and doesn't have to crush ones confidence(or ego). Not every lid fits every pot so try another lid.

@realcaseyrollins@noauthority.social I'm old and first got married long ago and then when she died, I remarried 25 years ago. So I have zero exposure to the modern dating scene. However, from the outside looking it, it seems to be very broken and there seem to be many disincentives for getting married and having babies. It also seems to me that life in the modern world has evolved in such a way as to delay marriage well past peak fertility. I doubt one generation can reverse this. I'm just hoping for progress.

@MostlyHarmless@thecanadian.social its easy to pick out a few factiods and make it seem like someone has it much better, But the whole picture changes things. The median household income in the US is nearly double what it is in the Netherlands. The median house price is higher than in the us and in the Netherlands it's typically a much smaller house with a much smaller lot. Cars and other stuff cost much more in the netherlands as well, allowing for a much higher disposable income in the US.

I was counted in that number for several years, now Im rich and know many other people that have experienced the same. Plus poverty is relative. Compared to many places in the world the poor in the US live pretty well. Our biggest problem is insufficient care for the mentally ill or drug addicts, this leads to a problem with street people in some areas.
