Nuking them won't work. Nuking mountains = you run out of nukes before anything happens. Invading them is just going to be a fancy way to die. In the same mountains that you can't nuke. Mountains are a bitch.

French political leadership is either highly opaque, or highly chaotic. I honestly cannot tell which. Half the time I think the chaos is a beautiful theatre act, the other half the time I think there's just no one at the wheel, and I cannot tell. British leadership is organized, and their biggest two enemies are the Russians and the British, so they have a pretty good chance of going to war with Russia in some capacity or other, but they also have a pretty good chance of ending up in a civil war and getting their throats cut by British Nationalists with Russian machetes. Hard to tell where they're going but it's gonna be messy.

There's another element to it too, once the Dollar Hegemony system is broken, everything is going to tend back toward things that fundamentally work. A lot of silly ideas have been tried over the past century because when you can print money, you can push back consequences. Now there's a lot of "oh so you don't care about your young native men? great, they don't care about you either, have fun learning Russian"...

AI didn't invent garbage papers, in fact this has been a massive problem even a decade ago. Remember scigen making total nonsense and it getting accepted in bad journals? Good journals have a slightly higher standard, but definitely not good enough. Reproducibility crisis has been a thing for a long time now. AI slop could even be argued to be positive for academia because it is going to finally force the issue by throwing open the flood gates, so now something *needs* to be done...

Really interesting question from one audience member:

I'm Indian Brahmin, I got my masters in the US in AI, worked at Amazon, applied to immigrate to Canada, I got my US green card before I got let into Canada. They're letting in low caste low skilled workers bringing big families with them but keeping out high skilled Indians.

It's like the plan was written by the City of London, and they wrote "import Indian labor", but then the CIA snuck into the building in the night and added "particularly disabled welfare recipients" to the document in order to screw them over.

From what I know, postgres has a million features that can allow you to scale quite a bit more, if, you know what the hell you're doing. But your experience is illustrative of the fact that mysql is still a solid competitor and will tend to save you from yourself if you don't. Personally my favorite database is Clickhouse. No transactions, no delete, every insert is rawdogging it.

You know about the Wright Brothers? They invented the airplane. You know what their day job was? They were bicycle mechanics. Think about that for a minute. Bicycle mechanics had enough free time to invent heavier than air flight. In the 1950s you could feed a family of four going door-to-door selling vacuum cleaners. The job market isn't "bad", it's rigged. The "free market" where everybody has a fair chance, they made that illegal with regulatory and liability reform in the 70s and 80s. Then they moved out the entire productive capacity of the country to China in 2000. Then they imported millions of 3rd worlders to work slave-wages so they could keep enjoying their milk and honey even after they had chopped the country up and sold it off. And sure you're fine, and I'm fine, we're smart motherfuckers and we figured out how to skip around this and catch the right waves. But you know this is what happened, and you know that for the average person out there, it's Uber and 3rd jobs. And there *were* off-ramps in the 70s and 80s, maybe even the 90s, but now that's all over. It's a one-way express and it's going to one place - an apocalyptically brutal civil war. There's gonna be heads on pikes, there's gonna be borders, and there's gonna be pogroms. But at the end of it all, in like 2045, it will FINALLY be possible for the average person to raise a family again.

Not sure that was really the argument being made. As I understand it, the claim is that humans may have evolved independently on different continents. Perhaps even independent evolution of the ability to stand on two feet.

You've mentioned this before - and there are a lot of things like this, where the truth is widely known but the myth is still official orthodoxy. For example: the jet fuel melts steel, vaccines are beneficial, and race has no impact on intelligence. However, for the most part, the powers that be are able to get away with holding these ridiculous myths because they don't impact them. Believing that weapons which don't work, do work, is one of those myths you CANNOT afford to hold. The pentagon is filled with people talking about "5th generation warfare", and how "we're not gonna bring the last war's weapons to the next war", and so on... So the idea that for ALL of the talk that they managed to do about not making This Mistake, they ended up making ... drumroll ... This Mistake... It's kind of amusing. And they could have kept the grift going and kept getting stupid billion dollar contracts for junk, IF, they had just done the one thing they had to do - which is make sure they also provide enough support weaponry that their junk doesn't make them lose. But as it is, they're gonna lose. And once they lose Iran they're gonna lose the gulf, and then the petrodollar, and then the entire fucking empire and their whole way of life - and to a significant extent, because they made This Mistake which they spent their entire careers talking about not making...

Grow a pair, you wimp.

There's companies running entire HR departments doing interview after interview for jobs that just don't exist.

And now AI interviews, so they don't even need to pay a human being to waste thousands of peoples' time.

Everyone who gets a job these days gets it by back-channeling, either through their ethnic group or from a friend. That's why you have companies laying off half their workforce while also applying for thousands of H1Bs.

Don't be a boomer.

With the caveat that a lot of people have tried to design a scientific utopia from scratch and ended up with something manifestly unworkable. Success stories like Singapore leaned heavy on copying of what other (contemporary) countries were doing.

Interesting YT vid:

  • Zinc lozenges which dissolve in your mouth are highly effective against colds (it harms viral replication so it's worth trying against any sickness)

  • 75mg or more per day

  • Zinc acetate or zinc glutamate. Other zinc compounds are not as effective

  • Sweeteners and citric acid added will bind to the zinc ion and make it ineffective, avoid these...

There's definitely influence campaigns - particularly around time of elections - but IMO most of the anti-EU sentiments you'll here places like OnHere is just people who don't understand it that well.... Americans particularly tend to think the EU is sort of like the US except more gay and retarded. People living in EU countries know that the EU is almost more like the UN or the WTO, it just doesn't really affect your daily life. All of the stupidity is thanks entirely to member state governments - and if anything, the EU is somewhat protecting them from themselves. Regarding Canada, I'm increasingly of the opinion that neither the US, nor the EU, is a solution or a cause of Canada's problems, and that Canada's biggest problem is The Crown (City of London) using it as an ATM / resource colony, and the best thing Canada could do is tell them to pound sand. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't really know what to do about religion. Looking at what kind of shit goes on in the Vatican and I'm like:

Any sufficiently organized religion is indistinguishable from devil worship

So I'm kinda atheist, but not THAT kind of atheist. I acknowledge the importance of religion but I just have no good answers.

What I think is important to about Constantin is that the Byzantine empire lasted for 1000 years, and that alone is a really important accomplishment.

Used Engine Oil Distillation - Can We Make Useable fuel ?
Well, you need a little energy to run the still, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. Burn wood if you're concerned about cost of that energy. But back to my main point: waste motor oil is free for very small amounts, but if you want a little more then it suddenly becomes impossible to find. So you're liable to build a whole infrastructure around something you can't get much of. I've done the math on every one of these pathways: vegetable oil diesel, synthetic fuel, algae, woodgas, methanol synthesis. Unless you're in one of a couple of very finicky areas like shipping, aviation, and large scale farming, nothing beats batteries.

You can talk about it all you want, but here's the problem: Anything that can kill all humans can OBVIOUSLY rule the world. And even if there's a 1% chance that the person who builds it doesn't lose control of it, that 1% is the chance that HE gets to rule the world. And if he doesn't, then China will. So if the Americans believe this theory, nothing will stop them. And if the Chinese believe this theory, nothing will stop them either. So ironically, the theory that AI may kill all humans is the exact thing that makes it impossible to stop AI research.

My counter-point is that there's a fairly good chance that if you don't see a given system implemented in some country somewhere in the world, there's a pretty high likelihood that system is just not workable at all. I have no confidence in National Socialism as implemented by the 3rd Reich because it didn't even last long enough to start running into problems - so we don't know if it would have worked. Communism was able to last 70 years and clearly that was not a very good system. And a lot of things are different than they were even 50 years ago. But some things are the same as they were 2000 years ago. When Rome was failing, they kept debasing the money so they could coin more of it with the same gold and pay for more bread and circuses. Constantin stabilized the gold content of the money, which remained stable until the collapse of Byzantium 1000 years later. So I'm of the opinion that a "non-printable" money is foundational, and I think Bukele's fling with Bitcoin is far more than a marketing gimmick. I think he wants to get to where Switzerland was before the 1970s, having an actual hard currency.

There's a guy doing waste motor oil (WMO) diesel called NotSoGrand Garage (you will find him with that search term). He is not distilling it, just centrifuging it, filtering it, and mixing it with some gasoline to get the desired viscosity. But he's also running it in an older engine. Problem with WMO diesel is you pretty quickly run out of motor oil...

Not at all, because there is too much manufacturing and industrial capability. Russia would like to conquer Western Europe, as would anyone. To get the German, Italian, and Swiss precision machining, French aerospace and medical, fucking ASML... Everybody would like to conquer that. But the thing is, if Russia gets that, then they will soon become powerful enough to challenge China, and China does not want this, so China will eventually fall out with Russia and begin antagonizing them in the east when they get close to Western Europe.

"increasingly of the opinion" is a far cry from "sure". All I know for sure is you got some real problems. Professor Jiang did a really interesting lecture about Canada's situation something like a week ago. The City of London hypothesis is his, and I find it reasonably compelling. He's certainly a very well informed person - though it's important to understand that he is someone who is willing to try out a hypothesis and be wrong - so when he says something, that doesn't mean he BELIEVES it...

The way I see it, when you're thinking about a nation-state, there's three groups of people you really need to care about:

  1. Your fighting men, the ethnic group that actually defines the nation of the state. These men should have a special level of citizenship and should be the only people eligible for government jobs. The health of this group is foundational.

  2. The artisans, technologists, business people, etc who CAN LEAVE and who you'd rather they don't leave. You need to care about them to the extent that you want them to be happy and not leave, but they don't need to be voting or anything.

  3. International capital - which you might spend 20% of your time seeking investment so you can have stuff like power plants, steel mills, etc. And the other 80% of the time you spend making sure they have absolutely no say in anything whatsoever because they WILL chop up your country and sell of the pieces if you give them one ounce of power over anything. They just need to be given clearly demarcated investments where they can make return, and that's it.

Gerontocracy. A lot has been discussed on this topic. Particularly that old people will vote to run their country off a cliff if it will guarantee them a few more years of comfortable retirement. Not that they consciously make such a choice, but there's always a politician willing to tell them they can have it both ways, and nobody is easier to lie to than someone who wants to be lied to...
