@hanspetermeyer@mstdn.ca After an entire career of remaining engaged in meetings by taking handwritten notes, I vote YES on the value of learning cursive handwriting. This is despite that fact that I returned to read those notes infrequently. #ADHD

@thetyee I see what is happening in my country, the US, as a sustained tantrum at the loss of its status as the world's most powerful country, which happened somewhere between 2010 and 2015. China has already won. The US can't maintain its air travel system, the infrastructure required for driving, or its fleet of cars, which appears to be going full Cuba. Ironically, the only way to save this car-based system would be to buy Chinese EVs, which is political anathema.

I strongly suspect that this fact is behind our worldwide political instability. I'm in this age range and I think that we need to take away grandpa's car keys.

@gwagner They have succeeded in bailing out oil companies by pushing EV adoption in the US back by a generation, in the process wiping out Tesla's competition for those who actually want an EV. There are no accidents.

@dannyman This is usually temporary, done because landline phone and cable TV companies (now both internet providers) can't work at the same time as the electric utility installing the new pole. My guess here is that it's permanent because there isn't enough slack in the lower cables to allow them to be attached directly to the new pole.

@billyjoebowers@mastodon.online Since support for the Trump administration is close to unanimous among American CEOs and business owners, boycotting specific companies is of limited usefulness. Cutting personal spending, especially by those of us who have some discretionary income, is essential.
I've never told my parents or my siblings the extent of mental health issues I've had over the years, including ADHD treated with stimulant drugs. Given that my brother expressed disbelief after hearing about a 60 year old co-worker being on prescribed Adderall, that appears to have been a sound decision.
