@joeress@mastodon.social @25admins@mastodon.social Incus is great on its own and I was running NixOS + Incus on my ThinkCentre before IncusOS was released, but as I was *only* running system containers on this box it was perfectly suited to be locked down with IncusOS.
I also have NixOS + Incus running on one of Oracle’s free ARM VMs and my home server (though I may switch that back to TrueNAS).
It’s great software and I hope it starts getting the recognition it deserves.

@25admins@mastodon.social #IncusOS can be run on systems without a physical TPM so Joe should be able to get it running on his old Dell (https://linuxcontainers.org/incus-os/docs/main/reference/installing-without-tpm/)
Also check your 1L PC boxes. Despite TPM2 only commonly appearing on 8th gen and later Intel chips I was surprised to discover my 6th gen ThinkCentre m910q had TPM2 support. It’s been happily running IncusOS since launch.

@ruben The only distro on your list that supports ZFS in the installer is Alpine (using the extended release) so you’ll have to do it manually for the others and setup DKMS to rebuild ZFS modules on every kernel update.
Chimera Linux and NixOS are also potential alternatives if out-of-the-box ZFS is a requirement.
I wrote a blog post a while back on setting up NixOS with native ZFS encryption for my ThinkPad T480 that may be of some help: https://blog.hetherington.uk/2025/02/installing-nixos-on-a-thinkpad-t480s-with-encrypted-zfs-2/

@llutz@norden.social @hanscees@ieji.de I used Hurricane Electric for my personal domains for over 10 years and can recommend the service.
Last year I switched to https://desec.io/ because i wanted support for ACME DNS-01 and DNSSEC. It’s run flawlessly since so I can recommend them too.

@tommi@pan.rent If you also include the UK in European then I can recommend Clouvider (https://console.clouvider.co.uk/cart/vps/)

@zeank@mastodon.social @daniel@gultsch.social Evolution Data Server does something similar with Contacts, Calandars and Tasks.
A desktop-agnostic version for XMPP would be great.

@latenightowl@social.linux.pizza I wrote a blog post on setting up Prosody on Debian a while back. It’s for version 12 of Prosody and Debian Bookworm but it should still work.
Version 13 of Prosody has some nice new features so I’ll get around to updating it at some point.
Hopefully it helps you:

@latenightowl@social.linux.pizza I’ve got one server running ublue ucore so am eventually planning to migrate all my services to containers but I want to get the Debian Trixie, Prosody 13 guide out first before I write one for immutable systems.

@JoeRess@fosstodon.org Don't you use Telegram extensively? Instead of just accepting donations via #scamcoin Telegram built their own #Cryptoscam, called TON.
The only way to get away from this crap is to use a proper, federated messaging protocol. #XMPP has been around for 25 years now.

@arnan@mas.to I’ve enabled Beta updates on all my Apple devices and switched them to the pre-26 track just to make sure 26 doesn’t get installed anywhere even accidentally.

@arnan@mas.to Yeah. If you’re using the same Apple ID on all your Apple devices there should be a similar option on Apple’s other OS’s.
Here’s a guide for those not yet enrolled in the Beta programme that wish to do so:
