Bon. Fait chier WhatsApp. On vient de rater une soirée bowling/karting organisée pour les élèves de la section internationale du lycée ou va notre aîné, par l’association des parents d’élèves de section internationale. J’ai vu que la soirée était présentée sur Instagram (j’ai pas Instagram), et on soupçonne qu’elle a dû être annoncée sur un groupe WhatsApp (j’ai pas WhatsApp). Ça me saoule, parce que ma meuf, et mère de notre fils, a les deux, Instagram et WhatsApp, mais comme c’est moi qui ai le plus de temps pour suivre tout ce qui est lié à la scolarité, ça me gave de faire peser sur elle une "charge Meta", parce qu’elle est la seule à pouvoir accéder à ces réseaux dont je ne veux pas sur mes appareils. Du coup, je me pose la question de mettre en place un système pour accéder d’une façon ou d’une autre à WhatsApp, en mettant en place une connexion entre mon compte XMPP et le compte WhatsApp de ma meuf. Je sais que ça existe, mais je ne sais pas exactement comment ça marche, ni quel outil choisir. #Daronnie #XMPP #WhatsApp

I really hope the Europeans don't just create their own versions of shitty American companies like Amazon/Google/Apple. I know there must be a third option where normal people can have control over their own things more and there's a default right to privacy. Will you guys PLEASE make #XMPP a thing. I have no one or no reason to use it and I want to.

ℹ️ Messagerie Instantanée XMPP L'opération technique sur la messagerie instantanée XMPP est terminée, désolé pour les quelques minutes d'indisponibilité du service. Pour ceux que ça intéresse : la base d'archives avait trop crû, de sorte que les nouveaux messages ne pouvaient plus être archivés et en corollaire, les messages envoyés à des personnes hors-ligne n'étaient plus conservés ni délivrés depuis cette semaine. J'ai modifié la base de données de l'archivage pour utiliser désormais SQL au lieu de Mnesia. Il n'y a plus de limite de taille à présent. J'aurais probablement dû faire cette opération lors de la migration du serveur le mois dernier, mais je ne voulais pas cumuler trop d'opérations techniques simultanément (toujours une mauvaise idée en informatique), et je n'avais pas anticipé cette croissance si rapide. Bref, tout fonctionne parfaitement à nouveau. Pour mémoire et cela ne change pas, les messages sont conservés sur le serveur XMPP pour une durée de 30 jours. Ils peuvent être conservés sur vos applications clientes plus longtemps. N'hésitez pas à en faire la promotion autour de vous, et n'oubliez pas que si vous possédez déjà un compte chez nous, vous pouvez inviter vous-mêmes de nouvelles personnes. https://gayfr.live #gayfr #XMPP

Currently doing research for another blog post, and I noticed that WhatsApp and Signal only gained the ability to edit messages in 2023, whereas Conversations has had it since 2016. To this day, both WhatsApp and Signal lack crucial features that Conversations has, like the ability to show what time zone a contact is in. #Jabber #XMPP

You can't make something out of nothing. If your favourite #nonProfit likes to pay their #president almost one million USD per year and around four million USD to Jeff B. you need to get money from somewhere. I do pay far more than 2.99 USD or even 3.49 € for my preferred #chat application 🤷 But at least it's free and federated, does not run on AWS, and does not require Android or iOS. #Jabber #XMPP #digitalSovereignty

Liebe #XMPP Gemeinde. Gibt es eigentlich neben #conversations (der ja der Goldstandard ist) noch andere auszuprobierende Clients für Android? Am Besten einen kostenlosen im Play Store, um neue Nutzer anzufixen? Nicht falsch verstehen, ich habe mir meinen Conversationsclient vor Ewigkeiten mal gekauft und Spende auch hin und wieder Geld an verschiedenste Open Source Projekte, aber viele Menschen die nicht wie wir Nerds die Notwendigkeit freier Messenger sehen sind von dem Preis abgeschreckt. Da ist zum Beispiel die Tante in Rente, die zwar Weg von Zuckerberg will, deren Nichte XMPP hat, aber die hat nicht einmal eine Kreditkarte oder andere Zahlungsdaten bei Google hinterlegt. Und Remote per Telefon und Mail ist es nicht so einfach die F-Droid Installation zu erklären.
