I make art…slowly.

@hanshuebner @plexus @can Puckey. This is "We have to do AI because if we don't China will" in less stupid phrasing. We're not in a gun fight. We're writing code. The only guns involved are the ones the vibe coders are aiming at their own feet--and everyone else's. For all its (often illusory) short-term benefits, AI makes everything worse in the long run. Opting out may be an unsuccessful strategy, but embracing it is a downright suicidal one.

@ThompsonArt@mastodon.art I love the color choices in a way I'm not sure I can put into words. It's the intensity of the contrast combined with the lack of bold, fully saturated colors that just does something to my brain.

@ocramius@mastodon.social @davidrevoy@framapiaf.org Hope is one thing, but we're not worried about whether they *will* do the wrong thing in the future. They've already done it. We've been watching them do the wrong thing in real time ever since they put AI "help" in MDN, and since then they've done nothing but lean further into AI hype and dismiss any criticism. This is what happens when your "nonprofit" gets all its money from its for-profit subsidiary. Investors love AI. Doesn't matter that they're the only ones.

I love how the Easter Vigil liturgy specifically calls out bees. In the short version, the Easter candle is referred to as "the work of bees and of your servants' hands," while the long version refers to the flames shared from the Easter candle by the congregation's candles as "fed by melting wax, drawn out by mother bees to build a torch so precious."

"Mother bees," that's adorable.

@davidrevoy Now, when it comes to actual LLMs and other hype-based "AI" products, I'm not that much more impressed with local ones than the big cloud guys. But when it comes to *Avian* intelligences? I'm afraid you've done your job as an artist too well. Pigeon bot is wonderful. I love him.

@MicroSFF@mastodon.art On the one hand, one of the things Gollum is most famous for is losing a game of riddles. (Then again, it wasn't really fair.) On the other, he certainly tastes terrible. (Then again, she said "kill," not "eat.")

@wcbdata @adrienne That makes sense. I think what's struck a nerve in this case is how much Proton leans on being non-US, with the implication that it's safe from the US government. Which obviously isn't true if the Swiss government will just hand the data over to American feds anyway. Obviously Proton doesn't, and shouldn't, have control over the Swiss government. But if being Swiss is a selling point, it's good to be aware of what that government will do.

Something neat I've noticed in Metroid Prime is that, because the Wavebuster chews through missiles like my cat chews through toilet paper, the room you have to go through to *get* the Wavebuster requires you to come in with a ton of missiles. It's making sure that you won't get the upgrade in the first place unless you have enough missiles for it to be somewhat useful.

Also I keep my bathroom door closed.

#MetroidPrime #Metroid #VideoGames and, uh, #cats I guess.

@davidrevoy@framapiaf.org @tiredbun@akko.wtf @voxel@infosec.space I've seen enough blatantly wrong LLM-generated alt text and spell check results that I don't think the technology is fit for purpose. Any purpose. AI "hallucination" is not a solvable problem: It's the exact thing LLMs are designed to do. So, with all due respect to the person being quoted here, I don't trust anyone who would entrust something as important as accessibility to AI.

@enriquericos Okay but this looks amazing. Yeah, sure, fine, I can find one lighting nitpick if I go looking for it. But this has such great atmosphere and use of color and value, and the one little red light is such a nice touch but despite being *completely* outside the color palette of the rest of the drawing, it doesn't pull attention away from the actual focal point, it's great, I love it, *DEEP BREATH* You did good, is what I'm saying.

Thought better of wading into an argument, but already typed this: #Easter's English name may come from Eostre/Ēastre, though both Wiktionary and Etymonline hedge on that ("seemingly," "proposed," "thought to", "also possibly"). Even if true, it proves no more than Holy Thursday's link to Thor. In most languages, the name is based on the Latin Pascha (from Hebrew pésakh, Passover).

The timing is deliberately based on Passover, because that's when the events Easter commemorates took place.

@Tealfuleyes@mastodon.art I overuse the word "delightful" but it really fits here. Each of these is wonderfully charming in its own way. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the little kid helping in the kitchen, because it's both super-cute and a representation of an important life skill. (Let the kids cook!)

You know what's even more helpful than posting a text post as a screenshot and then not including alt text?

When the text in the screenshot is dark purple on a dark gray or black background.

Why is this such a common color combination on Tumblr?

Fortunately, Tumblr also has a culture of people coming along and adding image descriptions to other people's posts.

@killyourfm Yes! I'm all for bringing forums back. But forums have their problems, too. (Even when they're not shiny, infinite-scrolling, Web 2.0 nightmares.) No system is resilient against an attacker with sufficient motivation and resources, but (as Prokopetz has pointed out over on Tumblr) it didn't take all *that* much motivation or resources for one troll to render a self-hosted indie forum completely inoperable. That's part of why the big socials took over in the first place.
