Gonna have fun setting this up today after work.
With the weirdness going on with computers, and a favor, I was able to sell my M4 Max Mac Studio a month ago for less than it cost me to upgrade to an identically configured M5 Max.

One of my colleagues made the comment that he'd never been someplace as smokey as the lobby of Encore in Vegas when we were walking through it.
He's in his early 30s.
This reminded me of when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s, that there were smoking/nonsmoking sections that both smelled like smoke in most restaurants. Smoking was still really common up until the mid 90s. Seeing those big brown cigarette dispensers beside arcade machines in restaurants was normal.
Smoking was normal.
I didn't even notice the smoke because part of my brain is still wired to smell it in the background as a thing, but it was terrible for my colleague.
I'm glad we've made that little bit of progress. Though that's one more reason why I don't like the strip...smoking is still common. I suppose when you cater to addicts, you need to cater to most all of their addictions.
Looks like I'll be going to New Orleans for Thanksgiving week with @hypoidbear@tiggi.es then taking a road trip with @VictorKoopa@tiggi.es around the holidays. Need to figure out some things to do to get out of town for a bit between now and then, though..
I've been running a Tripplite rack cooler in the home server room for a few years. While it keeps the room cool, it also doesn't manage humidity super well, and only has two modes - Fan, and compressor on. So it cycles quite a bit throughout the day, It also places quite a bit of load on the UPS. With the AC on it, the UPS goes from being able to support the entire system load for an hour or so, to under 10 minutes. The high inrush also isn't good for the batteries.
So, early next week, we're installing a Mitsubishi cooling-only 3/4 ton mini split in the room. 12 year warranty on it with 3 year labor, and it's compatible with home assistant so I can set up automations (like emergency server shutdown) if its condensate pump backing up causes it to shut down or other emergencies.
Not going to be cheap, but it'll create less noise, keep the humidity more stable, and will cost a lot less over the long haul for electricity since it will use only a fraction, and won't be cycling a lot like the current unit is.
And I can probably get at least a few hundred bucks for the current unit.
Big project, since the server room only has front of house access, which we can't use to mount the exterior unit, so it has to go through the attic, down the side of the house.
The things I do to continue self hosting. :)
Got the RGB/SCART modded JVC CRT dialed in as much as it can be.
Nice and sharp image out of a 20” consumer TV. Flyback needed adjusting for deep blacks.
#GetFediHired #Remotework #Linux #Kubernetes #Fintech I'm looking for a Senior Quality Engineer with strong Linux experience, experience with SQL, API testing, event driven architectures (Kafka/Rabbit MQ) testing both producing and consumption, and experience with Kubernetes. Past experience testing fintech or similar fields desirable, but not necessary. Python knowledge also desirable, but not explicitly necessary if other scripting experience present.
Role is remote in the US and Canada with travel within the US being very rare.
Great benefits, bonuses, and culture. Company is based in Austin, TX.
Company is profitable, and LGBTQIA+ Friendly. It's a role for a manager on my team.
We also are opening some roles in Brno, Czech Republic, so if you happen to be there, we may have some roles you may be interested in. The Czech Republic roles would be in-office.
DM me for deets.

Burrs made more strawburry su. The plate has blended strawburries and amaretto.
All the mascarpone cheese/whipped egg whites and sliced strawburries with crispy Italy-imported lady fingers.
#GetFediHired Still have some open roles for Senior Quality Engineers who know #Linux #Kubernetes , #Cloud hosted apps, and bonus for #Kafka and #Python
Some are in the Czech Republic, others are in the US. Fully remote work in the US and Canada, full benefits, bonus targets, and LGBTQIA folks in leadership, so we're definitely on the progressive side.
DM me for deets. ![]()
Burrs did a thing. Why? Reasons.
Could be a 30 year anniversary fun project for me and @VictorKoopa@tiggi.es - it’s running Street Fighter Alpha 3, but it’s getting a MisterCade and maybe a Vampire Savior CPS2 A and B board.
Got @VictorKoopa@tiggi.es ‘s Asus Zephyrus G14 covered in Stek forged carbon wine automotive PPF, cut with a hole for the LED slash with prismatic PPF over that while doing the tint on the M2C.
Chuck Norris didn't die. Death Chuck Norr---no, he's fucking dead.
Someone needs to make an alarm clock that sounds like a cat puking.
For a certain set, it wakes us up quicker than any melodic chime or bells ringing ever could.
I think if we hire any more trans women at work, I’ll be forced to officially add Rust to our stack.
Got a much better mount than the shop did for the Thinkware U3000 in @VictorKoopa@tiggi.es 's car. The Blendmount works for the Escort RedLine 360c, and the U3000 is mounted on a Viofo static cling film for easy removal should we ever need to, with a Thinkware/3M piece of heat blocking film on top of that, with the VHD adhesive on top of that.
The shop mounted it about 4.5" lower than where it is with cables visible, and without the heat blocking film, directly to the windshield.
Luckily, we have 3M adhesive remover and a plastic razer which made scraping it off easy. The heat blocking film may be a CM or so too high, but it's still going to work fine.
Any great #QualityEngineers who are great with #Linux #Kubernetes, #SQL and either #Kafka or #RabbitMQ in #Brno #CzechRepublic ? My team's looking to hire some Quality Engineers and eventually some SDETs there. Some really cool roles like Performance Quality Engineering, etc. opening soon. Please share with any folks who may be local. :) DM me if you've got interest or know someone who does. We've got several roles opening.
#getfedihired I've got a role open, reporting directly to me for a Quality Engineering Manager Level II, 3-5 years leading teams of 10 or more. Fully remote, US and Canada. Knowledge of SaaS/FinTech is helpful. # Linux/ #K8s / #AWS / #Ruby / #Python / #Kafka / #Scala / #Javascript stacks.
We do leverage AI, but I'm working to ensure it doesn't trod on the fun parts of the roles, but meets the requirements the business has.
If you or someone you knows may be qualified and/or is interested, send me a DM.
