Played all the hockey this weekend at a tournament in Vacaville. I am way too old to keep volunteering for Center. D is better chess anyway.
We came in third. We had the most fun.

You are going to love Jonathan Edward Durhem (if you didn't already) for his novel Winterset Hollow, scheduled for re-release in October.
We debated genres and I think we decided YA Fantasy Noir. Because Horror is an emotion, right? His Runny the rabbit is bloodthirsty adorable.

I see the trial has finally started for the guy that paid somebody to kill the reporter that broke the Panama Papers. Justice for Daphne Caruana Galizia begins!
$5 says there will be a tie to the Epstein files. Any takers?

@amydiehl@mstdn.social is this similar to the study they did showing the unconscious gender bias in science and education based on blanking versus non-blanking names on papers?
And in shameless self-promotion, along with promoting other writers with me...

@jnsgruk As a public service, I can let you know three people will never load Ubuntu again because you added "AI features". Your users are more tech savvy than people who just buy a system and use the default OS.
Clearly somebody hasn't read the room.
@ApostateEnglishman@mastodon.world I feel like I've watched way too many of those shows already. Like, who wrote this?

@deirdrebeth@mas.to @DavidJBianco@infosec.exchange I have had colleagues look at me funny when I say that I think SLMs locally a big part of the solution for LLM-backed attackers.
My prediction for 2027 is that more corporations will discover they are spending too much $ on licenses and tokens and start running local SLMs to do many of the agentic AI functions today.
In lieu of going out for lunch, I power washed the front porch and the black gunk off the cement in the driveway.

If you want to get away from current events, you should definitely back this anthology set in the Land of Oz.

Sharing this because it doesn't surprise me at all to find multiple betting platforms don't have a physical existence outside of Law firms.

If anybody would like to help my friend Neta the ice hockey goalie win some money toward teaching kids art and doing glass blowing, here's the link. There's a free vote option.
I think everyone should pick a memoir at least once a year and read it. Memoirs cast the light of perspective on the difference between the Hollywood-fiction version of history and people's lived reality.
This one is from a Scottish woman with a neurodivergent family, who talks unflinchingly about self-medicating through booze and the side trouble that brings.

@MissGayle I generally agree. The challenge is that Microsoft Defender is the standard for use in most municipalities, schools, lots of the federal government. So this isn't so much about you and me as it is directly heads up to all of the it departments.
I had forgotten how Michael Jackson died, so I saw the preview for his upcoming biography and looked it up.
And ended up reading about his daughter.
And then saw a link to this place. Send it to anybody who says they're for protecting children. Because this place is still open.

@arstechnica As with other divisions, department heads who lay off the clerks and the people who get things done because they do not understand everything that happens...
This also happens in a lot of companies. See 2024-2025 Tech sector.

@dan613 Fart molecules are measured in Daltons and are not carried by the significantly larger water droplets. That is how you respond to people who say that N95s don't work cuz they can smell their own farts.
