@inthehands@hachyderm.io I would add that even if you know the people everything is always on the table regardless. More often than not your dealing with strangers most who think unethical, or illegal but without consequences, is ‘just business’. Has led me to some unforgettably hilariously awkward interviews where I caught the interviewer in lies or downright crimes.

@FluentInFinance@mastodon.social @peterbrown@mastodon.scot But if you are into real estate you can claim to be rich. Inflate the value of mortgaged properties then use them as collateral to take out more loans to give yourself a big paycheck. Trump just doing what he has always done.

@flipper@mastodonapp.uk @cwebber@social.coop @KimPerales@toad.social I was a senior engineer and I always insisted my own code was actually reviewed not just rubber stamped. I was typically called in after the disaster happened, not for a review before, so it was to my advantage. That said if AI is to replace programmers it will not need to generate code. What is the point of generating code humans can read if no humans are going to read it? (1/2)

@metin I was a programmer for 45 years so at some point writing code became really easy, not really a cognitive strain. A machine that can create, test, modify and deploy software given plain language instructions is sort of the holy grail of business leaders since the beginning. I asked AI why it writes code, rather than just deploying native machine instructions, and it replied with lame 1980’s coding 101 manual reasons but one given was ‘so people can read it’. (1/2)

@lzg I would love to see the prompt someone entered that caused AI to delete the backups. And I can imagine AI replying ‘Okay, you asked for it’.

@JulianOliver@mastodon.social I know I am not dealing with a sentient being if it ‘never gets tired or bored, or disagrees’. Even my dog doesn't do that. I would have to have way more belief in my own unwavering correctness to find a connection with ChatGPT endless pandering and validation.

@baglava @streetartutopia Well it's a start. True though. Criminals launder money using much the same financial loopholes ultra rich business folk use to avoid taxes. It is really difficult to tell them apart.

My Canadian bank holdings, almost worthless before Trump took office, are now stellar performers as Canadians (obviously) flee US banks. Dow Jones is at 48,892 Nikkei is at 53,560. As the dollar continues it's long slow going out of business sale under the MAGA administration other currency is worth more so expect more of the same trend. That said the price of eggs is way down. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/31/business/sell-america-dollar-financial-markets.html?unlocked_article_code=1.IlA.d8F-.GKvDzxr8nuXV&smid=url-share (2/2)

Regardless the discovery made the discovers famous in no small part due to the NYT hilariously repeating Lowells statements of certainty. It was only later that someone, after centuries of assuming it's correctness, checked the math used re the orbits and discovered it was wrong. The anomaly doesn't exist. It should remain a planet to remind us of the way hubris, money, delusions and celebrity, while not part of the scientific method, continue to distort it's orbit. (2/3)

@sarahtaber@mastodon.online Excellent video, so true. Aside from the assortment of sketchy characters there is a lot of dangerous machinery, less than bucolic animals, dangerous chemicals and woking conditions. You might end up disabled but have to be in good condition and know your way around to start out with.

@adriano @lzg So one could say it was user who should have understood what the flag did. However if a vendor spent billions of dollars training someone and implied they could do a job a user might assume the information given was solid. If it isn’t the vendor would be called out for the mistake. With an LLM there is no responsibility or accountability, they need a human for that.

@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online The FCC revoking a broadcast license seems rather weak. My guess is most people that rely on antenna TV are locked into Fox News.

@bretcarmichael@mastodon.social @aadeacon@mastodon.social True but protecting the fiduciary interests of shareholders is always a given. What is driving this is so far Apple has had reprieves and exemptions on Trump U.S. tariffs for Apple products made in China. They seemingly bought those with a three figure billion dollar pledge to invest in the US so the exemptions of just them do not to appear blatantly ‘socialist’. Apple hopes to stay out of the fray so it can continue to ignore that pledge.
