@EUCommission Stop posting on them then. Stop using them then. You and everyone else in European institutions. Social media companies are making money through the ads that are being displayed next to the content posted by regular users. No posts from regular users means less ads displayed, which in turn means less money for them.

They're adopting a business model similar to the one of YouTube, where one needs 1000 subscribers and >4000 watched hours per year in order to be monetized. And the majority of YouTubers are not able to reach it. Indeed theft, as some people pointed out. Or exploitation. In any case, such business practices should have no place in our society.

@stephan Have you considered sharing some of the music that you create on Loops (the Fediverse-based TikTok alternative)? I am a musician too, play flute, and am active there uploading my short video recordings. (My German is a bit rusty, but I listened to the music in the video, and it sounds quite good, congrats!)

@EUCommission That's a good step, but ultimately, Europe needs to start emphasizing its own home-grown social platforms, and reduce as much as possible its dependence on platforms from other parts of the world that do not share its values. And high-profile European politicians need to stop relying on X or Bluesky as a primary mean of communication, as it provides such platforms with excessive influence.
