@TheManyVoices @CatsOfYore Glass plates were used extensively in the 19th century. US Civil War photos were primarily taken with glass plate negatives.

A brief #Minnesota report on #ICE activity in #StPaul. The alleged drawdown simply means they have gone under cover. In some ways it’s worse. ICE agents visit neighborhoods out of uniform, walking dogs. A Mexican restaurant had kept its door locked, and unlocked it after reports of the drawdown. Within hours, 3 ICE agents visited.

@mattblaze@federate.social Matt, I hope I don’t risk being blocked, but here goes. As a follower I see your posts complaining about negative reactions, but not the offending posts. The targets won’t pay attention anyway or, like me, assume your words apply to someone else. I probably have a fraction of your number of followers, but isn’t it better to ignore and/or block than to post complaints about them? Also, many silly posts come from AI bots and trolls which, like all wild animals, we mustn’t feed.

Important plans include backups and contingencies.

@adamshostack@infosec.exchange @jbaggs@infosec.exchange The swirling dot display hints that some sort of random (encrypted) data is being exchanged. I don’t see anything recognizable that might highlight a change, assuming you mean a malicious change. As a lazy human, I generally compare a few easy-to-find blocks in the field-the obvious technique. Bbut that doesn’t seem to be what you mean.

We spent yesterday on St John’s, US Virgin Islands. The main power for the island was out for almost the entire time. It was sabotage. Fortunately (or ironically) most enterprises have backup generators so commerce could proceed.

@peter@thepit.social @briankrebs@infosec.exchange My favorite example is Kevin Kelley’s book from the early 1990s, “Out Of Control.” He interviewed a mixed bag of “experts,” and cherry picked the quotes. Specific predictions for future tech came from CEOs and marketers. Researchers and experienced techs were quoted, too, but rarely on specifics.

@mattblaze@federate.social I grew up near Tyson’s Corner and the “unhardened” tower always caught my attention. I wondered why I never saw photos taken from its summit. One afternoon after I had my driver’s license I drove up to the guard shack and asked why. The guard smiled and said, “You need the red badge of top security to go up there!” This was in the ‘60s. Ever after I’d look at unusual structures and wonder if they hid some secret purpose.

@djl@mastodon.mit.edu @mattblaze@federate.social I used a Polaroid back with a 4x5 view camera. One of the films created a somewhat stable negative along with the positive print. Adams discussed its use in his book “Polaroid Land Photography.”
