My brand new computer !

  • does not fit in my backpack (bad !)
  • runs Unix (good !)
  • OS does not have AI extension that I don't want (good !)
  • 32 Kb of main memory, I'll need to optimize hashtag#geogram a bit (good !)

Packing my luggage for Eurographics Conference and fixing some last minute details for our course with Cyprien Plateau-Holleville on fluid simulation with Optimal Transport, Monday afternoon.
See you there !

Preparing for our course "Optimal Transport Based fluid simulation: New and Old" with Cyprien Plateau-Holleville
(next week in Eurographics,Aachen and in July in SIGGRAPH,Los Angeles)

Playing with a 2D simulation of "droplet hurdles race", an experiment inspired by De Maleprade and co-workers.
It features high surface tension, high viscosity and complicated interactions between the free surface of the fluid and the boundaries of the domain.

Getting ready for SIAM International Meshing Roundtable in Berlin
https://www.siam.org/conferences-events/siam-conferences/imr26/

Tuesday 03/03 morning, I'll be giving a short course on mesh intersections, featuring
- methods and algorithms for mesh intersection
- a collection of horrible meshes
- gritty details
- war stories

@tom_verbeure@mastodon.social Hi, yes it is an excellent question ! The difference is mainly that they manipulate different representations of the geometry:

  • OpenCascade manipulates parametric surfaces (polynomials and rational fractions), used in CAD/CAM
  • Geogram manipulates meshes, used in scanning/printing (e.g.). And also, Geogram has some low-level functions (Delaunay/Voronoi) targeted towards specific uses (e.g., cosmology).

@johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz a friend of mine offered me this book for my birthday some time ago, it is great, because

  • it is a scientific adventure
  • Feynman makes a short apparition in it !

Replying to
@weaselx86@mastodon.social it's nothing serious (unfortunately), the machine, in the hall of the CS dpt in Berlin, is not functional. But I have an Apple ][+ from 1979 that works like a charm (after servicing the PSU and changing the RIFA). But this one cannot run Unix !

@Nikolai_Kingsley@dobbs.town if you have a RISC-V emulator for the PDP11, then you can run my RISC-V port of doom on it :-) (just need to find a way of plugging 2 Mb of RAM on it) 🤣
