I was just asked by my mother to hand her the lap… phone… pad, which is otherwise known as an iPad. I kind of like the other name better though.

There is a thick, round rubber foot stuck to my desk. It must have come off of something, but I'll be damned if I know what.

This is a bit of a longshot, but figured I'd ask here anyway. About twenty years ago, I got a Digital Juice sound effects library on either 9 or 10 DVD's. They had multiple volumes, and I'm not sure which this was. The filenames are all something like 01234_sfx.wav rather than something easily searchable. I have all the files still, but not the database that came with it. In 2015, someone built a tool that reads data from a CSV and renames the files. Trivial to re-create, but I don't have the source anyway. https://s.co.tt/2015/07/08/digital-juice-sound-effects-library-file-renamer/ Digital Juice itself went bye bye almost two years ago. Does anyone here happen to still have the metadata from their sound effects libraries by any chance? I would like to rename these files to something that can be more easily searched.

I want to take all the keycaps off of this keyboard, and replace everything that isn't control, alt, windows, space, backslash, shift keys and enter with W keycaps, then give this keyboard to someone who relies on looking at the keyboard for accurate typing.

Why W? Why not?

I could just as easily move the keycaps around randomly, but I think just having a bunch of W's would be more fun.

OH look. We (America) are on track to try permanent Daylight Saving Time again. It's happened before. It didn't last long. I expect more of the same if it happens. This time, though, we have states that can opt out, which is just going to cause a confusing mess. I can't wait. Bring on the chaos, it isn't like we don't have enough of it. Right?

Didn't do a thing that I should have done, because the opportunity presented itself, and won't do so again for another who knows how long. Yes, folks, I am the best at wasting opportunities, resources and allocation units.

I almost knocked a 40 something inch television off it's crappy stand/table thing. Fortunately, I caught it before it landed face-first on the floor and cracked. It's lite enough that I was able to grab it with one hand.

I've had T-Mobile 5g home internet for almost a month. In that time, I've discovered that the primary use for the T-Life app is to advertise T-Mobile Tuesday deals. IT also incidentally lets you pay your bill, control aspects of your device, etc. but it is mostly just another ad campaign conduit.

I was at the top of my game, both personally and professionally, in my late 20s and early 30s. I thought I had life pretty well figured out. Then, the universe said "HAHAHAHAHA, NO!" And that's where I am today.

@JamminJerry@mastodon.stickbear.me @remixman@kind.social It is possible to not use their router and replace it with your own stuff, but doing it right is expensive, probably more than most who get this service would want to deal with. Yes, you can just plug an existing router in, but it is possible to clone the IMEI, take the SIM card out and install it in another device that doesn't have such restrictions.

And, as a counter to that, here's another boy, kkind of) with another magic guitar... sort of?

@JamminJerry @shefoof There's a thing in control center that allows you to change the microphone mode from one of three options. Standard (default, kind of noise reductiony), voice isolate (tries to get rid of all things that are not voice), and wide spectrum (basically lets everything through). It's an icon in either the status bar or control center while you're on a call. Don't remember, haven't done it in a while.

@JamminJerry@mastodon.stickbear.me @remixman@kind.social Right, but my point is, it wouldn't matter if you had equipment for bridging like that, you still do not get your own dedicated IPV4 address, so no port forwarding for you. IPV6 is an entirely different matter. You actually can publicly host stuff on IPV6 addresses without doing anything too special. I've even hosted servers from my phone hotspot before. Of course, whoever connects to you must also be IPv6 capable.

I just had a silly sequence when performing a speed test from a Raspberry Pi 5 connected through a Tailscale exit node. It was as follows:

Speedtest by Ookla

[error] Error: [-3] Try again
[error] Error: [-3] Try again

Server: ReliableSite Hosting - Piscataway, NJ (id: 32339)
ISP: Akamai Connected Cloud

Yeah, maybe not so reliable?

The test server and that particular error message actually have nothing to do with each other, but the fact that it happened like that amused me more than it should have.

@remixman@kind.social It's basically a big ol' wireless router with a 5g modem in it. "Unlimited" data for $55/month, at least with the plan I have. There are discounts. Where I am at the moment, it's kind of the best thing going. I get nearly Gigabit speeds down, much less up. Depends on where you are and how saturated things are in your area.

@remixman@kind.social Yeah, sure you could. The router that T-Mobile gives you is excessively large, so it would be kind of annoying, but it would work just fine. It is powered by USB-C, so you could power it from a battery bank, though I would recommend using a large one. I only got about 10 hours of continuous use from a 25,600 MAH battery. There are definitely more efficient hotspots, and if you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can put your SIM card in such a device, but it isn't exactly a straightforward thing, because you also have to clone the IMEI and junk. Basically, it's more than most people would want to deal with. Much easier to do with other data only services.
