Today's run was powered by Powerslave (1984). Quite possibly Maiden's best.
Finished playing "Desperadoes III" and I enjoyed almost every minute of its 30h+ runtime.
There are many moments when you don't see any way forward, then you can think of something (combined with a little bit of luck) – and it's so satisfying when the plan finally works out.
The plot is a simple revenge story, but by the end I really loved the characters. Especially Hector, what a guy!
I think I'll be playing "Pillars of Eternity" next.
Apparently, you can be firmly against the legalization of parenthood with the help of a surrogate mother for ethical reasons and happily adopt a child with the help of a surrogate mother.
Now that's an interesting ethical position.

@tomroberts@metalhead.club @brh@metalhead.club I loved them a lot in the past but only recently got back into them. I guess I fall out with bands when they split up and return when they do.
I got "To Walk a Middle Course" and "Time Will Fuse its Worth" on vinyl when they came out, though I think they got better with every album.

Thanks for the incredible number of likes and comments. 😸 Franz gives his paw to everyone.
"The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante" is currently free on Steam. Likely because its sequel is to be released on the 20th of July.
To be honest, I added it to my wishlist purely based on the artwork and medieval setting and have not yet played it. I think it's a text-based, choose your own adventure kind of game.
What I've read about its story it looks very much like something I would enjoy.

@brh@metalhead.club Given my subpar cv and lack of interview skills, maybe I should find someone to do that scam with. I would love to be left alone and just do the other work.

@brh@metalhead.club Oh, I finished Jane Eyre only a couple of weeks ago.
It strongly resonated with me, perhaps because every moment and event is depicted as being of great emotional or even ethical depth. There might also be the sense that if you tried your best, you can accept every stroke of fate with stoic serenity.
I don't know what I'm saying. Beautiful book, though.

@brh@metalhead.club Haha, I know that feeling. And usually you get less reading in than you would on a regular Tuesday. 😅
What are the nominees?

@therealahall@gamerstavern.online @MASTERBOOTRECORD@mastodon.cloud Oh yeah, I can totally see why. Cool that you got the chance to see them (and went for it)!
In the past this electronics and metal/rock/hardcore/grindcore mix didn't make much sense to me (for instance, I couldn't get into Genghis Tron). To be honest, it's only fairly recently that I began to fully appreciate how awesome NIN are. That sure opened some doors.
I saw that all the Master Boot Record albums are NYP on Bandcamp. I'm looking forward to listen to them!

@brh@metalhead.club Very good purely objective explanation why it's (subjectively) a great movie.
MediaDeathCult, a YouTube channel primarily focused on science fiction, now has a new channel for British history.
They really should hire that guy as BBC host or something.
The REAL Battle Of Hastings
#CurrentlyReading Plato's Sophist. Ancient writing and philosophy can be rather dull, but some moments are so quirky.
Like when he defines what it is to be an idiot. Or when he bluntly states that there are two bodily arts, medicine against illness and gymnastics against ugliness.

@chronosss@mastodon.social He sure remembers that others exist, come 5pm (the time for dinner). 😅
From "Halloween, the slasher about Michael Myers" to "another horror film about Halloween". Great fun, though. It's really the kind of movie I could watch every couple of years.
Now I have that commercial burned into my brain.

@MetalheadDana@metalhead.club Oh yeah, it's so great. Usually the base on modern album is barely audible to me, but I love how you can follow Geezer's every move.

@therealahall@gamerstavern.online @MASTERBOOTRECORD@mastodon.cloud I vaguely remember reading about this band (I think they might have opened for Igorrr on their European tour last year?) Damn, all this looks awesome!
Noted for later, thanks for the recommendation! But also, I feel like a fraud for never playing the original Doom. 😅

@HailsandAles@metalhead.club Uncountable number of "How are these albums almost 10 years old?!" moments. Incredible...
Back then it really was the BROCKHAMPTON year for me. But it cannot compete with an absolute classic:

@jake4480@c.im @lfm_blue@mastodon.social I've heard them for the first time yesterday. I love how it's kind of mellow and in a way relaxing. Or heavy and clean at the same time.
I'm under the impression that modern psych rock tends to lose itself in heavy guitar jam orgies. It can be great (people on here recently talked about Earthless), but I like that Blackwater Holylight takes a more structured approach.

@therealahall Oh yeah, that approach sounds well though-through. Very cool that you can use the system in both ways.

@therealahall I like: "AI optional but delightful." I'm as annoyed by AI-advertisement as much as the next man, but it's obviously not as if LLMs had no valuable use-case.
The engine sounds very useful!

@therealahall Back in school my mom would always pack up loads of cookies and stuff for field trips because I usually wouldn't eat what they prepared for us.
This is the grown-up and more ethical version of that. 😁

@AqiDrago Oh, I've recently read The Will of the Many, too. I wasn't a big fan of the opening section and expected the society to be a bit more complex, but it grew on me later on.
I loved the pacing and overall it was just very good fun.

@troberts@theblower.au My favorites were "Weapons" and "Wake Up Dead Man". And "A House of Dynamite" was better than I expected.

@troberts@theblower.au Perfect description of Franz, too. He invariably shows up at my door at 6.30pm requesting 7pm dinner.

@troberts@theblower.au I recently got Crunchyroll (a moment of weakness) and was seriously tempted when my brother talked about how he catches up with the show every once in a while.
I've watched it when it first aired on TV. I wonder why I stopped.

@troberts@theblower.au Oh, my local library has it. I'll get it the next time I'm there.

@mm78@mastodon.social I loved their latest album. So when I saw your post I thought, now that's a good idea for #BandcampFriday !
Picked up "In One of These" and "Van Grond".
Studying Pillars of Eternity through wiki, guides, and videos, probably more than actually playing the game.
But easy to see why people obsess over the mechanics and lore.
Replying to
@brh@metalhead.club Wow, what an awesome cover!
I don't think I've heard of that band. But the album is described as "their unique blend of progressive death metal and black metal with arpeggiating synths, wistful drones and vast soundscapes, harkening back to the era of 80’s sci-fi soundtracks" – if it sounds anything like that, it must be as awesome as the cover.
I'm thinking about buying merch from Bandcamp. Does anyone know if the #BandcampFriday rules apply here? Or is it only for digital music?
