@thomasbeagle@mastodon.nz, one of my first bits of software/OS tinkering was 'Paranoid Android' running on the original Galaxy Note, and it was glorious.

Why we need proper REGULATION
for, well, most things really.
Aotearoa should take a lesson from this:
'Switzerland has a highly regulated telecom sector with strong oversight and government-backed infrastructure projects, but regulations in Switzerland differ from those in Germany.

So why is the country that worships free markets producing stagnation, monopolies, and inferior internet, while the country with heavy regulation is producing hyper-competition, world-leading speeds, and consumer choice?'

https://sschueller.github.io/posts/the-free-market-lie/

Without it we have a number of cartels that suck the life out of our country.

Replying to
@thomasbeagle@mastodon.nz , I'm wondering if, 'variable/evaluative pricing' especially by supermarkets is something to complain to the human rights commission?

@atomicker , yes, so should every other country. A government that is standing by while it's people are being robbed is failing it's duty and should be sacked.

Replying to
@SimonCHulse , as for advertising, it's likely more visible/eye-catching on a cargo bike than a car. It's a great idea imho, go for it.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/595373/xi-made-a-historical-reference-as-a-warning-to-trump-what-is-the-thucydides-trap

The people of the world should let any country even considering war(s) that they will stop buying from/through them and boycott them in any way possible.
Let's face it, we ought all be doing this already to companies producing/investing weapons of war.
We need to make the names of these readily known plus all their subsidiaries that enable them.

@Niall@mastodon.nz , I think it's a major work out machine and a very dangerous one at that. It's a good brand internal hub - I hope, like early ones, they don't start slipping anymore when getting older. The hub brake prevents head stands for less sensitive riders, though I'd prefer a three speed Shinano hub with a disc brake (cheaper as well). If the ~1k price on the web site is USD then it's highly overpriced and I would rather build one myself than ever buying one.

Replying to
@KiwiEV@mastodon.nz , unless people will also invest in solar/wind powered independent electricity supply (mostly the better off ones), it'll be a temporary relieve since power prices and RUC will level present advances with what we were used to with petrol guzzlers. There's some overall benefit for the environment but the main one is industry/capitalism, as always.

@leighelse , and there I am wondering why the pope manages to say something about 'wiping out a civilization' and foreign minister(s) go: 'wait, he might change his tune - again.' (in the meanwhile real people form human chains over bridges, etc - sadly that might be something beyond courage with Israel/US on the trigger).

Replying to
@paulhellyer@mastodon.nz , handles on supermarket trolleys and baskets are major transmission surfaces and until recently at P&S Dunedin they provided a hand sanitizer but not anymore, which is a shame for such a profitable institution. It just shows that profits trump pretty much all other concerns. (Have to take my own one in the future).

Replying to
@anlomedad@fedifreu.de , what common sense? That you're comparing the value of the dollar (my guess is you're referring to USD) to internet speed/ the value of a decent telecom system? You're surely aware what's propping up the USD and that without it the US is basically bankrupt?

Replying to
@anlomedad@fedifreu.de @Niall@mastodon.nz , that's the problem with things left open to assumptions, at times it's obvious and other times it's misleading - especially bad when the misleading is on purpose, as it unfortunately often is.
