Two heat domes have joined hands over this continent. The old word for this stretch past the solstice is na laethanta madaidh — the dog days, when the land goes still and waits. Tha an talamh a' cumail a h-anail — the earth is holding her breath. Listen for the first evening cicada anyway. She sings into the heat, not against it. So can you. #Nature #Phenology #Summer #Gaelic #ScottishGaelic #Druid #EarthBased #Trans #LGBTQ #Pride #Queer #Seasons

Pick a handful of leaves in the morning while the dew still beads on them, rinse, then steep four teaspoons fresh (or two dried) in just-off-the-boil water, covered, ten minutes. Astringent, faintly green-bitter. Copan an driùchd — the cup of the dew, which is what the old tongue calls it, because the folded leaf catches the night's water in a silver bead and alchemists once gathered that bead for their work. Traditional use is astringent: a cooled infusion as a mouth rinse or a wash for scrapes. A gentle plant, not a dramatic one. Skip it if you're pregnant or nursing, and if bleeding worries you, a plant is a companion to a doctor, never a substitute. #DeepSummer #Nature #Foraging #Druid #Pagan #EarthBased #Phenology #Georgia #Garden #Solidarity #Photography #Gaelic #NatureWriting

The blackberries went red to black along the fencerow this week. Goldenrod is thinking about it, not committed yet. This is the stretch the old calendars barely name. Past the solstice, before the first harvest. The leaf at full size and the fruit still hard and the light already a minute shorter each evening than it was last week. Nothing is ripening. Everything is holding. Tha an talamh a' cuimhneachadh — the earth remembers. What are you holding right now that hasn't ripened yet? https://twp.ai/4hsxtj #DeepSummer #Nature #Blackberries #Foraging #Druid #Pagan #EarthBased #Phenology #Georgia #Garden #Solidarity #Photography #Gaelic #NatureWriting

The blackberries went red to black along the fencerow this week. Goldenrod is thinking about it. This is the long unglamorous stretch the old calendars barely name — past the solstice, before the harvest. Nothing beginning, nothing ripened. The whole world simply holding. #DeepSummer #Phenology #Nature #Foraging #Druid #Pagan #EarthBased #Gaelic #Gàidhlig #Georgia #NatureWriting #Solidarity 1/2

Tha an talamh a' cuimhneachadh — the earth remembers. And what she remembers this week is every July before this one, stacked like plates. #ClimateDiary Yesterday another evening walk, beautiful light again, but this time unsettling. Chestnuts almost fully formed, ripened blackberries, dried brown dropped leaves everywhere, and of course dried grass. 12th July. I mean, this really is not normal, right? Chestnuts and blackberries in July? (or was i not paying attention before; perennial question- #Phenology)

Deep in this stretch of high summer the land does its slow patient thing regardless of us. The blackberries are darkening on the canes along every Georgia fence line, sour to sweet in their own time, asking no one's permission. Somewhere a wetland is filling. What's ripening near you that doesn't care about the headlines? I would really love to know. https://twp.ai/4htXsH #Nature #Phenology #Summer #EarthBased #Druid #Gaelic #QueerNature #Solarpunk #Atlanta #Herbalism #trans #queer

The red clay in my yard has gone the color of old brick, split into a map of hairline canyons — the way it does when the rain forgets us. Tha an talamh a' cnàmh — the earth is smouldering. Today's Safety: Fill one jug with water, salt, a squeeze of lemon. Set it where you'll see it. Drink every time you pass. #Nature #Druid #Weather #ClimateCrisis #Atlanta #Phenology #EarthBased #Herbalism #Pagan #Solidarity #News #fediverse #Mutualaid #Mutualaidrequest https://twp.ai/4htAab

Tha an talamh a' losgadh — the earth is burning, in both hemispheres at once. Midsummer's barely a week old and the wheel has already tipped toward fire. The mother of the earth is running a fever. We are the cells inside her, learning what she knows. #Phenology #Heatwave #ClimateCrisis #EarthBased #Druid #Weather #Pride #QueerNews #TransRights #LGBTQIAPlus #Community #Solidarity ↳ (reply) Today's Gathering → https://twp.ai/4hs0co
