I do like how the ripples are making this Eurasian coot look like it's also having a spiky hair day 😁 Photo taken yesterday on my brief trip down to the allotments #birdsoftheworld #birds #coots | #kent #england

The big pond at the allotment was looking as lovely as ever yesterday evening 😍 #naturephotography #landscapephotography | #kent #england

I had fun this evening stringing the best of the onion harvest to take down to my friends who have let me look after their little allotment this last couple of years. I planted them as sets in late April, but unfortunately forgot to make note of the variety 🙄 #allotmentgardening | #kent #england

I didn't get much done on my brief trip to the allotments on Saturday, but I did get another good harvest of super-sweet cherry tomatoes 🍅😋 #allotments #allotmentgardening #gardening | #kent #england

One of #Kent's nastier ppl has been detained by ICE in America. Yiannopoulos, 41, a former editor of Breitbart News and onetime political aide to rapper Kanye West, appears to be held in Louisiana, according to ICE's inmate registry. The self-styled provocateur has called himself the "most fabulous supervillain on the internet". His critics call him a purveyor of hate speech. Yiannopoulos, who grew up in Kent in the south of England, was arrested on 27 August after arriving at the airport in New Orleans. Keep him!

"We’re treating nature as a commodity or a resource and we’re forgetting we’re part of the same system. And it’s this sense of entitlement that we can just strip it away and plunder it. It’s replicated across the country, across the globe.” Green Councillor Rachel Rodwell #ReformUK #Kent #Forests #Trees #Nature #Biodiversity ‘It’s irreplaceable’: Fury over Reform plans to expand quarry in ancient Kent woodland | Trees and forests | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jul/30/oaken-wood-ancient-woodland-kent-quarry-expansion-reform-council

‘It’s irreplaceable’: Fury over #Reform plans to expand quarry in ancient #Kent woodland https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jul/30/oaken-wood-ancient-woodland-kent-quarry-expansion-reform-council Logistically it is unfortunately rather harder to go full Julie Butterfly-Hill in a coppiced sweet chestnut than a California redwood, but it's tempting. #OakenWood

"Continuously wooded since at least 1600, Oaken Wood is a plantation on ancient woodland site (paws), which means it is the site of an ancient forest that has been replanted. For centuries it has been worked as a sweet chestnut coppice, with whole sections felled in rotation, allowing the stumps to regrow." #Kent #ReformUKhttps://www.theguardian.com/environment/2026/jul/30/oaken-wood-ancient-woodland-kent-quarry-expansion-reform-council

My usual view of the big pond in the allotment grounds this evening, and before-and-after pics of my friend's little allotment after I put the strimmer around. I think we can say that it's mostly "under-control" now 😅 #allotmentgardening #gardening | #kent #england

I'm pleased that the onions have naturally keeled-over, as I'm hoping this is a good sign that they are maturing properly 🤞 #allotmentgardening #allotment #gardening #onions | #kent #england

Urban Trees "Urban trees are known to improve air quality, biodiversity and mental health. Despite this, planting in towns and cities is lagging behind need as it is often seen as expensive and hard to establish trees in these environments. We wanted to test if new ideas could be cost-effective and yield a high survival rate. This pilot is led by Kent County Council." https://treecouncil.org.uk/science-and-research/shared-outcomes-fund/urban-tree-establishment/ #Miyawaki #SolarPunkSunday #Forests #Forestry #Trees #AirQuality #BioDiversity #MentalHealth #Kent

Not great pics (they were full zoom on my phone), but I was reminded yesterday on my walk to the allotments, how attractively patterned juvenile Black-headed Gulls are 😍 #birdsoftheworld #birds #gulls | #kent #england

I couldn't resist taking a series of shots of this very obliging coot this evening 😍 #birdsoftheworld #birds #coots | #kent #england

Only a quick trip to the allotment this evening, really just to check on things, but I did make a start on mulching the tomatoes with spent potting compost that I brought down from home. A pretty good set overall, I think 👍 #allotmentgardening #allotment #gardening #tomatoes | #kent #england

2am kickoff 😐 Although they were shy, I did manage to get a couple decent pics of the pigeons last Thursday. I think I should be scared of this one! 😬😅 #birdsoftheworld #birds #pigeons | #kent #england
