@gnuplusmatt@fosstodon.org i dual boot archlinux & kdelinux, with me spending most of my time in the latter for recent months. i've also run kinoite on my ssd before kdelinux, where it was straightforward to install s/w. kalpa also lets us. however the one unsolved challenge i have in kdelinux [my apps are via a combo of flatpak & distrobox] is i've found no way yet i can install my vpn app & have it work... unlike kalpa & kinoite, kdelinux has no package manager. having it in a distrobox did not work, albeit maybe i need to create a root not merely user db? there is no flatpak version, nor appimage, & the other precompiled binaries [rpms & debs, & Arch's one] are no use given no pkg manager. #DropbearPooterising #Linux #LinuxWomen #FOSS:kde: :linux: #KDELinux | :archlinux: :kde: :plasma: #ArchLinux #KDEPlasma :opensuse: #Kalpa | :debian: #SparkyLinux | :fedora: #Kinoite

@kalpa@fosstodon.org @vortex_acherontic@mastodon.social yes, all good again now. i have noted the two commands i needed to salvage that VM, in case a similar scenario arises in future. many thanks to you both oh, Shawn, do you have a rough feeling of whether Beta is months or weeks away? i would like to put #kalpa on a spare SSD in my main pc, but don't see much sense in doing it before Beta, so i'm just curious about the possible timing... no big deal

for mega-yonks i have avidly followed heapsa #linux hashtags [as a linux user & enjoyer] plus various #bsd tags [as someone somewhat bsd-curious but quite overwhelmed by it conceptually & practically]. am now thinking of unfollowing said bsd tags, coz seeing all the posts from all the clever peeps using it with all their incomprehensible commands & concepts, rather than inspiring me is kinda sorta more demoralising & overwhelming me also, there's just no point me ignoring the fact that i bloody well love using my various linux systems, & hafta be honest with myself that the chances of me ever seriously embarking on learning then using another paradigm now are pretty damn slender so, unfollowing said bsd tags seems logical & pragmatic and yet... ...it also feels cowardly & lazy ergo ever more i continue walking around in an endless circle on a cold distant planet, locked in a logic loop, the very robot of which asimov wrote #DropbearPooterising #Linux #LinuxWomen #FOSS :kde: :linux: #KDELinux | :archlinux: :kde: :plasma: #ArchLinux #KDEPlasma :debian: #SparkyLinux | :opensuse: #Kalpa | :fedora: #Kinoite

@Canageek@wandering.shop Part of the issue is when people say #openSUSE, it's not particularly descriptive. They could be talking about #Leap, or #Tumbleweed, #MicroOS, or even some other variants, like #Aeon or #Kalpa, none of which have to really be in agreement with each other, for something to exist within the larger project, or ship them.
