Hello world! I'm thinking of trying a new OS. At the moment I'm on #opensuse because it's European (and it was also my first Linux distro back in 2002). However I'd like to move to something with a stronger stance against llm slop.
My computing needs are modest: a web browser like #librewolf, #emacs and #lilypond cover it pretty much. Fortunately I have a wlan USB thing with open source drivers, so I have high hopes it will work.
Next step, installing #Linux on systems. Digital sovereignty doesn't stop at the office suite; the operating system is still a dependency underneath. What distributions are primed to be the #foundation once the office suite is sorted? #openSUSE #Fedora #Debian #Ubuntu https://tuta.com/blog/countries-ditching-microsoft-choosing-linux-digital-sovereignty
Older #openSUSE installs with small #ESP partitions have a new option, XBOOTLDR! A separate #FAT32 partition that gives systemd-boot the space it needs. Full migration docs on the openSUSE wiki! #Linux https://news.opensuse.org/2026/07/07/xbootldr/
Looking for a #Linux distro with automatic snapshots, easy rollbacks, and rock-solid package management? #openSUSE has you covered; Tumbleweed, Leap, Slowroll, MicroOS, and more. Try it today! #OpenSource get.opensuse.org
Ok, I think I'm getting in over my head on this computer problem, any help much appreciated! (Linux/Opensuse TW/KDE/btrfs)
Symptom: Everything that tries to save something to my home partition (configurations, sessions, kwallet, etc.) says that I have no space left, and thus won't work. Some programs won't even load (Vivaldi, Steam). Every file manager I have tells me that I do have space left.
History: Before this happened I had tried updating a game in Steam thinking that it would warn me if there wasn't enough room on the disk to do so (silly me). Then the whole desktop crashed and I had to restart.
Tried: 1) deleting several GB of files. I can now download files to /home, but all the other stuff still won't work.
2) running fsck from bootable flash drive. Mostly didn't do anything. Finally got it to tell me to use btrfs check instead (I am using btrfs).
3) I did that and it told me that there were errors. The only things that looked like errors was in "Checking free space tree" where it said "Space key logical (number) length (number) has no corresponding block group" twice with different numbers.
4) Not being terribly familiar with btrfs yet, I read the fine manual for btrfs check. There were lots of warnings about not trying to repair a btrfs without experienced help, else risking your volumes. So here I am.

Hi can someone give me hint how to solve missing or maybe wrong fonts used in #openSUSE ?
#Y2K38 isn't a distant problem; #openSUSE developers have been finding real breakages by #testing with #2038 clocks. #GCC now has -Wtime_t-conversion warnings, and #Leap 16 ships 2038-safe by default. The #community is tackling this head-on. https://news.opensuse.org/2026/01/20/os-community-tackling-y2k38-epoch/
Finally, after long waiting, I am accepted to be a speaker in openSUSE.Asia Summit 2026 in TILC Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta at Oct 3rd until Oct 4th, and I will bring the topic about introducting GNU/Linux system among young people, the next generation.
If you want to participate, book a ticket now and I’ll see you at Yogyakarta!

Am I the only one confused by the names for openSUSEs editions?
Leap: As in "...but a giant leap for mankind" that reminds me of conquering a new frontier is of course the stable LTS edition with older software.
Tumbleweed: As in "nothings going on here, it's deserted, empty, inactive, here's an 80s western scene of a ghost town and rolling tumbleweed" is of course the rolling release edition with the most recent software versions.
