NGC 6992 - Eastern Veil nebula Another part of the massive Cygnus loop, a 20,000 year old remnant of a supernova that lies about 1500 light years away in the constellation Cygnus. This halo of gas and dust emits light because it is electrically charged (ionised) by the resulting radiation from the supernova. Seestar S50, processed in Siril and GIMP. RE: https://mastodon.social/@sundogplanets/116893541666491703 !! Five Alarm: This is real fucking bad !! Reflect Orbital, a planned orbital illumination system, proposes to use in-space mirrors mounted on satellites to reflect sunlight down to Earth at night. They say they will provide “sunlight on demand” through satellite constellations designed to illuminate areas up to 5 kilometers wide at intensities between 0.8 and 2.3 lux—several times brighter than a full moon. #ReflectOrbital has outlined plans for thousands of satellites and just got #FCC approval to launch. Links in Prof. Lawler's thread explain the science and the insanity of this project. We cannot allow this manifestation of a Bond villain plan to happen. #DarkSky #RightToNight

Acme Weather, from the Dark Sky guys 😍 Fifteen years ago, we started work on the #DarkSky weather app. “Over the years it went through numerous iterations — including more than one major redesign — as we worked our way through the process of learning what makes a great weather app. Eventually, in time, it was acquired by #Apple, where the forecast and some core features were incorporated into Apple #Weather.” https://acmeweather.com/blog/introducing-acme-weather
