I just watched the 1957 British Hammer movie "The abominable snowman" for the first time. It is awesome :-) The movie follows an expedition in the Himalayas set out to find and capture the Yeti. It stars Peter Cushing as a friendly botanist and Forrest Tucker as a profit driven businessman and showman, leading the expedition. The film was Cushing's first of many Hammer collaborations. Needless to say, Cushing is wonderful in his role and Tucker also does a very good job. The movie is quite different from most campy creature features of that time. It was written by Nigel Kneale who is very "scientific" and logical in his approach and wrote some great dialog for the movie. The script focuses on the psychological tension, isolation and existential dread and humanity rather than gore, cheap special effects and jump scares. That being said, the story move nicely along and there is never a dull moment. Everything in the story is rather intelligently explained and doesn't really feel stupid or nonsensical. The director Val Guest does a phenomenal job directing but he is regarded as one of the most prolific and influential directors in British film history. Uno studio pubblicato nel 2026 sulla rivista Environmental Research ha analizzato cinque marchi di alimenti secchi per cani e gatti commercializzati in Spagna, individuando microplastiche in tutti i campioni esaminati. Nei prodotti per cani sono state rilevate in media 9,33 particelle ogni 5 grammi di alimento, contro 4,07 nei prodotti per gatti. Si tratta però di uno studio esplorativo, basato su un numero limitato di campioni, e non consente di stabilire quanto questa esposizione incida concretamente sulla salute degli animali. Le particelle individuate appartenevano a diversi tipi di plastica, tra cui PET, polietilene e polipropilene.
