I just watched the 1957 British Hammer movie "The abominable snowman" for the first time. It is awesome :-) The movie follows an expedition in the Himalayas set out to find and capture the Yeti. It stars Peter Cushing as a friendly botanist and Forrest Tucker as a profit driven businessman and showman, leading the expedition. The film was Cushing's first of many Hammer collaborations. Needless to say, Cushing is wonderful in his role and Tucker also does a very good job. The movie is quite different from most campy creature features of that time. It was written by Nigel Kneale who is very "scientific" and logical in his approach and wrote some great dialog for the movie. The script focuses on the psychological tension, isolation and existential dread and humanity rather than gore, cheap special effects and jump scares. That being said, the story move nicely along and there is never a dull moment. Everything in the story is rather intelligently explained and doesn't really feel stupid or nonsensical. The director Val Guest does a phenomenal job directing but he is regarded as one of the most prolific and influential directors in British film history. I love most things about this movie and highly recommend it :-) #British #movies #horrorMovies #HammerFilms #PeterCushing #film

Aðaldalur, #Iceland. I recently spent some time in a summer cottage in #Aðaldalshraun in #NorthernIceland which is a large lavafield about 2000-3500 years old. In some parts it is disappearing in moss and Icelandic birch but in other places it looks remarkably intact. I also cycled around lake Botnsvatn which is just above the beautiful town of #Húsavík, made famous in the 2020 #Netflix comedy #Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. It is quite a beautiful place and amazing to #cycle around. #lava #Iceland
