Hormuz Strait, Iran opens to Trump: "We will reopen it within 7 days if you cease military pressure." And Tehran says it is ready to return to negotiations with the US. The Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the U.S. counter-blockade of Tehran’s ports are driving up fuel prices. An unsustainable situation that is having repercussions on both the regime in Iran, with crude oil exports brought to a minimum, and the global economy. Therefore, the ayatollahs this morning have proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if Donald Trump's United States takes the first steps towards easing military pressure, by halting raids. This news comes from the Japanese news agency Kyodo, according to which the proposal has already been transmitted to Washington through intermediaries. According to Kyodo, citing a Tehran official briefed on the dossier, any agreement would foresee the resumption of negotiations aimed at definitively ending hostilities between the two countries. Tehran hopes to achieve the agreement by exploiting the United Nations General Assembly, which is meeting this week in New York, perhaps through a meeting between an American and an Iranian delegation. The same official ruled out that there could be a meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Assembly. “There is the possibility of moving towards an agreement,” the official said, adding however that Washington must demonstrate “seriousness and commitment” so that diplomacy can progress. Iran sets its conditions, Rezaei delivers mediation plan to Qatar. AGI - The Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Mohsen Rezaei, revealed in an interview with 'Al Jazera' that Tehran had delivered to Qatar the conditions for negotiations with the US. Iran and the Qatar Mediation Proposal Rezaei outlined the conditions for ending the war, describing them as “the end of the war on all fronts, the unblocking of frozen assets, and the end of the naval blockade.” In this regard, Tehran awaits a response from President Trump. The Secretary also stated that Iran hopes for an end to the war between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi Yemeni rebels, adding that it believes the Shiite rebel group also seeks an agreement with Riyadh. A New Strategy Against Trump For the high-ranking official, “Trump’s threats will lead nowhere, and Iran is ready for a decisive war.” Iran has come to believe in the necessity of changing its strategy towards Washington following the United States' withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The President’s evaluations and calculations regarding Iran are mistaken, and the war was instigated by Netanyahu. Iran knows the vulnerabilities of the US military and is more prepared than ever to counter its air attacks, adding that it recently tested a naval missile near a US aircraft carrier. Tehran's Defense The Iranian official stated that “Iran takes its defense seriously and that, in the event of an attack, it will strike American bases and Washington’s interests in the region with greater force.” #Rezaei #Qatar #MohsenRezaei #AlJazera #Tehran #Trump #SaudiArabia #HouthiYemeni #Shiite #Riyadh #Washington #theUnitedStates #Netanyahu #Defense #Iranian #Americanhttps://www.agi.it/estero/news/2026-09-19/iran-proposta-mediazione-qatar-39143293/

Trump said that the "war will end soon," but Hegselth denies it and confirms that US troops will remain in the area until 2027. Only this night, President Donald Trump was certain that the war against Iran would not last much longer. Yet, this morning it was refuted by his loyalist Pete Hegseth who, on the contrary, predicts difficult months ahead. According to the Wall Street Journal, the head of the Pentagon has extended until 2027 the deployment of U.S. troops in the Middle East theater. A decision that, according to military experts consulted by the American publication, fuels the risk that the conflict with Tehran could last until next year. What is certain is that maintaining 50,000 troops in the region allows President Donald Trump to have great flexibility to assess future moves. Read also: Iran, Trump returns to bombing. Trump on Iran says he is sure that "the war will end soon", but Hegseth refutes him and confirms that U.S. troops will remain in the area until 2027. One of these, reported by the Wall Street Journal, would see the tycoon convinced that limited attacks currently underway and the strong economic pressure on the Islamic Republic of Iran could push the regime of Mojtaba Khamenei to raise white flag, dismantling its nuclear program. Alternatively, the regime could even collapse, giving way to a new political phase for the country in the Middle East.
