Today's story is the result of an ungodly amount of research, and I am very glad to finally be able to share it with you. Authorities in Australia have arrested two men believed to be members of TeamPCP, a prolific cybercrime and data extortion group blamed for perpetrating the longest running spree of software supply chain attacks ever. In a statement released today, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said two unnamed suspects from Western Australia, aged 21 and 23, were arrested in connection with a “sophisticated cybercrime syndicate that allegedly created malicious open-source software to rob thousands of global businesses.” The AFP did not name the defendants, but KrebsOnSecurity learned the 21-year-old suspect’s real identity in June, and has been communicating with him ever since. This story includes interviews with TeamPCP’s self-described spokesperson, and examines clues left behind by the TeamPCP leader that likely led to his undoing. https://krebsonsecurity.com/2026/08/two-alleged-teampcp-hackers-arrested-in-australia/ #cybercrime #cybersecurity #arrest #teamcp

Huge hammer blow for the French torrent tracker scene. Waves of arrests have taken place, and historic sites/teams are shutting down quickly. This situation affects both the brains behind the platforms as well as some moderation actors. FW, UNFR, Predb, Nexum, Xander, QTZ, Tenmaland, Supply, and Slay3r have either closed or announced imminent closure. Behind every username are real people whose dedication built communities over years, our thoughts go to administrators as well as affected users, particularly those without means to access culture legally, the most precarious, and everyone fighting against digital locks that deny access to knowledge and works. #torrent #tracker #p2p #piracy #drm #law #justice #arrest #security #french #france #it

Since #Trump pardoned every member of the #J6 mob, 33 out of the approximately 1,500 released have been convicted of other #violent #crimes, a rate of 2.2%. Elsenet, sumdood is arguing that this is no big deal because, and I quote, "The national violent crime rate is 4.4%." He argues that therefore, J6ers are less violent than the average person. Unfortunately for him (but fortunately for everyone else!) he's not even close. There were about 1.3 million violent crimes *reported* in the US last year, out of a population of about 330 million. Assuming one criminal and one victim per crime—which isn't necessarily the case, of course, but it's a reasonable approximation—that's a rate of 0.4%, not 4% or more. The #arrest and #conviction rates are much lower. There are about 500,000 violent crime arrests each year, or 0.15%. I can't find conviction numbers at the moment, but they must be lower than arrest numbers: for convenience, let's say 0.10% of the population, 2/3 of those arrested, are convicted. 2.2% is a lot more than 0.10%. Even a #Republican ought to be able to figure that out.
