Of course, corporations would have different reasons for being in that crowd as “copycentre” side (BSD) idealist developers, but not even all corporations have forgotten that it also means open development (instead of just code drops like Google AOSP) and community building. (I’d even exclude “open core” like Gitlab from this.)
Man, #AOSP is the biggest indicator to me that traditional FOSS just isn't doing the job anymore. The way Google has figured out how to keep something FINO (FOSS In Name Only? 😂) while being practically locked-down is utterly diabolical.
Yes, but not under copyleft. That was an even bigger turnoff for me in CollapseOS (IIRC) than their focus on a specific 8-bit CPU.
Please elaborate. I appreciate both the copyleft and copycenter viewpoints, and I understand the copyleft criticisms of copycenter, but not as much the other way around, except for a couple bullet points from De Raadt & co, namely: Copyleft code is as locked-down as copyright towards copycenter projects (has to be clean-room re-implemented)Copyleft protects itself from becoming copyrighted or copycentered, but copycentered (permissively-licensed, for those not familiar with the term) code can become copyleft at any time, making it a one-way street.Copyleft projects (especially Linux kernel) emphasize quantity over quality?
In finding European alternatives, we don't talk enough about operating systems! This is where change literally begins and ends, if you get this right a lot of the other changes come automatically.
Here some great examples of European operating systems:
