How many ways could this possibly go wrong and then who will be held accountable when it does?
"For instance, users can set Custom Rules that tell it exactly what it's allowed to do on its own, what it needs to ask permission for, and what it cannot do. To perform sensitive actions, such as changing a password or deleting data, users must give explicit permission. Dots from ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspaces are not used to improve OpenAI's models by default. On personal ChatGPT plans, it seems users have to take an extra step to turn it off"

How the fuck do we recover from this all out assault on our environment and values? How are these pricks still not guaranteed to lose the next election and how much more damage can they inflict before the election?

My 88 year old father's trip home from Bunnings this morning might have been disturbing viewing.

This may be the most important book you read this year. It crystallises and explains the anger I'm feeling right now about our current government and their agenda. Those feelings of external entities abusing our legislative process to further their own purposes. Our democracy is young and fragile and we need to stand up for it.

@airshipper@cloudisland.nz "why don't we just rely on the self-regulation that works fine for print journalism". Sure it does, if by fine you mean regulated by wealth.

@irix@cloudisland.nz OMG I had no idea such a place existed - I guess it's right there in the title "Hidden" museum.

@Salty@mastodon.nz we are accustomed to getting "information" for "free" via the platforms that farm us for advertising revenue. That doesn't really work when the AI platforms have been trained on that "information" but inference costs aren't free. Plus they've generated the demand without being able to service it so e.g. there are limits on usage even for paying consumers.

@wonderofscience@mastodon.social I absolutely loathe those awful vines. The speed with which they climb and smother trees is unreal. Perfect for their native land but horribly invasive here in Aotearoa New Zealand.

@DGI@graeber.social a booming economy is not the objective; it's the transfer of public funds to private wealth and we see that every day, not by idiots, but by the deliberate manipulation of the democratic processes that aren't sufficiently hardened against that type of assault.
