@HalvarFlake@mastodon.social this is a funny statement, considering how incapable the societies we live in (UK & US... as far as i know) of large public works projects like the Pyramids
i feel like you'll be right, but not in the sense you're putting in here

many of these projects are extremely technically impressive & i wouldn't be caught dead running one in a production workload
the only thing that sparks any amount of joy so far architecturally is gVisor, but i tried running it and all of the pieces seem to fall apart violently on my system in some way i struggle to comprehend

@hailey@hails.org yeah this was my response to "please add [hardening]" to git-pages
getting hardening inside an app is _hard_ and things like seccomp/pledge barely do anything for a web application anyway, the trust boundaries are squishy and between requests
systemd already does most of what you'd be able to get with pledge or landlock in best case. and go-landlock is cursed (check it out)

@puppygirlhornypost2 this is true actually yeah
for me personally the most awkward part of the process is _closing_ the issue
i once nearly got banned from ocaml on purpose after spending years griping about their stale-bot. i think they ended up removing it long after i stopped caring

@puppygirlhornypost2 we've all more or less agreed by now that randos aren't entitled to having their pet feature implemented by volunteers, but the next step of this is that they aren't entitled to code review either; it is a social contract that only works long-term if both sides put in the work of making it happen

@puppygirlhornypost2 this 100%
especially if your first PR is to reformat the entire codebase to make it more Google style (actually happened)
i'm more willing to entertain it when the PR comes in the form of a dialogue from the very beginning, though

@anildash@me.dm @lkanies@hachyderm.io John Postel would probably disagree, considering he hated how his name was used to cover up non-compliant behavior

@dragonarchitect seeing "FreeCAD" in the list is amusing to me because i found it so unusable for basic tasks that i spent five years and upwards of $15k of my own cash making an alternative CAD a reality

@dragonarchitect back when i started working with it the solution for making an assembly was "manually enter the coordinates"
that wasn't what pushed me over the edge though. it was when it crashed and corrupted the savefile 2nd or 3rd time in a row, completely destroying my work. unforgivable; i haven't touched it since

@ShadSterling @puppygirlhornypost2 unfortunately, i don't think this is much of a signal. people hit the like button on fedi like it's a read receipt

@puppygirlhornypost2 like i have a pretty short fuse as these things go and i don't think i would ever have a problem with this type of issue (to the point i'm not even bothering enabling discussions for it--more visibility is probably better if anything)

@jpm@aus.social my core [vexriscv in a funny configuration] would flush the pipeline every time (and make the vcd hard to read) which is why i went with "branch predictor" (that i don't have); you're right of course
