software developer (with a degree in physics – but that was long ago). I publish in English and Italian (currently more in English), + German, French & Spanish occasionally (mainly in answers). I dream of a better world, where we can fight pain, discomfort and poverty, instead of fighting each other.

@straphanger@urbanists.social The biggest hubs for night trains, according to this map, are Lviv and Kyiv. How sad! If only #Russia stopped destroying #Ukraine and peace in #Europe! If only most #Russians spoke the language of cooperation instead of the language of war ☹️

@Craigp I must say, not all the world speaks English as a first language, and those who don't, don't care much how it's called. I, for one, care more about how to verbally communicate about it. It has the same pronunciation ambiguity (for non-native English speakers) as GIF.

I think I'll switch to #Vivaldi as soon as they implement multi-account containers

Sure, navigation (sea or sky) is in nautical miles, but people in the US and a couple more places usually talk statute miles, so if it's like you say, these people probably understand something like 13% less all the time. But why use the same units as the rest of the world when your units can cause this nice confusion

Well, I didn't know that alkaline #batteries can explode, but that's what just happened. I heard a loud bang, and then the two AAA batteries of a remote control (Duracell Plus AAA, best before 01/2032) were lying on the floor, one hot and with the negative end partially open, the other unaffected.

@randahl@mastodon.social And BTW that's almost at night, because I see just 1MW from solar cells.

This is NOT the TRUE Wikipedia page.
The true one is here:

I don't even know whether they mean statute miles or nautical miles...

thanks a lot. But I don't see why that would be "a massive undertaking". These containers (that could have a better name than "multi-account"), are essentially separated browsers, sharing almost nothing. It seems conceptually rather straightforward to me (relatively speaking, of course)

@jon@gruene.social Have you been to the Vatican City train station by train??? Even though I often take a train that stops at Roma San Pietro, e few hundred metres from the Vatican, I only learned today that, according to Wikipedia, there is one weekly train that connects Città del Vaticano with Castel Gandolfo (where the Pope's summer residence is).

Oh, because in English "Verdun" rhymes with "one", I presume, but to me that's awfully wrong
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@smitty@mastodon.halibut.com I'm beginning to think (a bit late) that this is a hoax, and thus should not be boosted. Is there evidence to the contrary?
