@geonz@mathstodon.xyz @cainmark@mstdn.social @nickwedig@dice.camp @signalstation@raggedfeathers.com This is exactly correct. I work in a research function (used to be an actual library) in a large corporate and a lot of people really shouldn't be trusted with finding info, especially in these days of ai slop. We used to run "How to Google Better" sessions but that was pre-enshittification.

@budududuroiu@hachyderm.io Or you could just let people enjoy things.

@ajft@aus.social I hope they have insurance for that broken mirror

@metaning@mastodon.social @aj@gts.sadauskas.id.au I never went to the jelly wrestling at the Oxford, but I have it on good authority that it was as sordid/awesome as you would expect.

@fesshole@mastodon.social Yeah, I had cancer and only told family and close friends. And my boss. I happen to have a great family and friends, no-one was annoying about it and I felt I got all the support I needed without anyone being intrusive. I guess I got lucky in a lot of respects.

@gcvsa@mstdn.plus I was just looking at the Buena Vista page and found this: "Will fit 700c x 42mm tires with fenders", which sounds much more reasonable. Wonder if the 28mm maximum was for the old rim-brake model?

@gcvsa@mstdn.plus Nice thread. A nice alternative to the Soma is the Velo Orange Polyvalent Lowkicker. Looks like they're out of stock, but they go up to an XL and look absolutely lovely. Tho I just noticed it's 650b... but takes nice fat tyrees. https://velo-orange.com/collections/frames-1/products/polyvalent-mk5-1

@FunkyBob @stilgherrian yeah, definitely has linkedin vibes

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I want a slice of whatever that cake/pastry is. HB to your mum!

@seolucius @Daojoan I really struggled with giving up until a few years ago. Felt like some sort of moral failing if I didn't finish a book no matter how much I was hating it. Now? I'll happily put a book aside for later or not at all. Life's too short.

@Pkbwood My work now has an ai IT help chat. Absolutely awful. Sends you around in circles for 10 minutes suggesting the things you've already done before finally suggesting you need to talk to a human. Human had issue sorted in less than a minute. Bring back humans!

@theothersimo @internetsdairy @fesshole My first thought too.

@FolksVelo Because they've got a war to sell.

@ajft@aus.social eesh.

@BoneHouseWasps@beige.party @fesshole@mastodon.social Thanks, coming up to 15 years! And congrats to you! My only regret is not taking much much longer off work...

@linuxandyarn@hachyderm.io @nixCraft@mastodon.social you've been reading my mail

@xgebi@hachyderm.io @Daojoan@mastodon.social I looked at goodreads a couple of times, and it's just depressing. Reading isn't a competition.

@danimrich@mastodon.social @Daojoan@mastodon.social gamifying something is guaranteed to make me hate it.

@greenpeace@mastodon.social Same as it ever was.
