@statsguy@mas.to Along those same lines: I was able to become a second-time parent at 51 despite complete infertility thanks to progress in science, culture and law. My daughter was part of a batch of embryos created by a gay man and his husband with the help of an egg donor. When they'd completed their family, they donated the remaining embryos via their fertility clinic, and we got one. We hired a gestational surrogate to carry her, and now our (adopted) son finally has a little sister. @RickiTarr@beige.party

@GottaLaff Every Republican who's in a marginalized group is there because they have a violent hatred of some other group, and think they're magically protected from the Republicans who hate them, too.

@fatsam@mstdn.social This is why I have the sidest of eyes for the suburban revolutionaries who want to tear down "the establishment" but have no real idea what to do to replace the civic infrastructure that would collapse during such an event.

@scottsantens@hachyderm.io I'm in favor of UBI, but this is bullshit reasoning. We already know why poverty exists. We don't need to imagine that there are brilliant philosophers or artists who haven't yet graced us with their work solely because they're broke. UBI is the moral and sensible* thing to do, even if everyone it goes to is just average. *Assuming it also comes with inflation controls to avoid making the extra circulating money a wash

@georgetakei@universeodon.com There's no reasoning with people who think violence, including violence against children, is an acceptable response to any infraction, however minor, unless it's committed by a white Christian man. These are the people who happily beat their kids for "talking back."

@RustyBertrand@mastodon.social @cactus86@mastodon.social I've been doing as much as I can for the last 35 years. I'll still be doing it for the next 35, if I'm lucky enough to have them. But I do concentrate on practical actions that can actually do something instead of toothless protests. I don't have the spoons to waste on marching with a pithy sign when I could instead be helping voter registration drives.

@CanadianCrone@mstdn.ca @GottaLaff@mastodon.social Honestly, I think most of these guys are just utterly terrified of having to do any sort of domestic labor. They see it as inherently demeaning and emasculating to wash their own underpants or make breakfast for their kids.

@Silversalty@mastodon.social @georgetakei@universeodon.com Unless you were born before 1979, you've never lived at a time when Democrats had both the White House and a filibuster-proof proof majority in Congress for more than a few months. It's preposterous to argue that Democrats don't do anything when they've never been given the actual power necessary to do it. If you really want to see what a true Democrat majority might look like nationwide, look at what WA has done since we finally got ours in 2017.

@SwiftOnSecurity@infosec.exchange I have a doc stored locally that has all my passwords--but only referenced with a code word that will help me (and the spouse, should I be incapacitated) remember. Like if the password was a variation on "horseshoe," I'd reference it with "Artax." (Not actual examples, of course.) Someone would have to directly target my home server and its monster firewall AND know which drive and doc to look for and wtf I was thinking. Certainly seems safer than trusting LastPass or w'ev.

@cactus86@mastodon.social @RustyBertrand@mastodon.social Because the majority of us didn't vote for the people in favor of those policies. Our government was designed by white male slavers to benefit themselves, and has minority rule built into its structure. It's next to impossible for the rest of us to get anything done because of this. You may as well blame peasants for the actions of a tyrant monarch.

@sdw@mastodon.social I need one of these for the road west of my house, which has a locked gate from the city blocking it. Delivery drivers go that way all the damn time even though my instructions tell them not to, and then they get mad because they have to take another 12 minutes to go the right way.

@MeanwhileinCanada@ohai.social I've been going non-stop since the week before Thanksgiving. I couldn't do it without the spouse and our eldest watching the baby and doing dishes and laundry, but 95% of holiday prep is entirely me because I'm the only one who knows what needs to be done and--crucially--cares that it gets done. It's exhausting.
