@davidgerard I mean, Yegge did say in so many words: "Do not use Gas Town if you care about money." If a user wasn't cynical enough to take that to mean "Gas Town will pillage your API credits for stevey's benefit" that's on them.

Say what you like about Wayland, when I'm in Gnome or KDE I can click on a button that says "Reverse (Natural) Scroll Direction" and shit works everywhere.
When I'm in XFCE, God only knows what occult incantations might need to be uttered or scribed before everything everywhere does the right thing.

@Chancerubbage yeah, apparently a tech journalist complained about not getting enough engagement on Mastodon and getting hostile pushback when they wrote nice things about AI. And a Concerned Important Person quoted them and said, oh noes, is Mastodon an echo chamber? AI-advocating journalists getting pushback instead of engagement is exactly like black folks getting driven away by racism!
And there was much eye rolling, pointing and laughing.
That's what I know of it anyway

@Chancerubbage I probably just happen to be following a person or three who boosts that sort of thing. Questionable life choice on my part.

Small move away from potential "slopware" (after reading this list https://codeberg.org/small-hack/open-slopware) -- turns out that the terminal emulator "foot" does everything I want that "kitty" does. So I switched to that, on linux. It's just as widely available and it's fine.

@gourd @zerodogg Tried installing Gentoo on a thinkpad last night, got it booting and connecting to the internet but stopped short of getting a desktop environment installed. The whole thing was exhausting and blowing a couple hours plus without even getting a GUI going bummed me out. I don't think I'm made for Gentoo. Not ruling out another try someday when I've got more energy and optimism but right now, nope.

@robrecht@kind.social that's interesting, I would have thought it was late Latin too, just because it's so popular in the romance languages and in Latin itself I feel like I've seen things like "stercus" more. Interesting to learn that!
