Fedi makers, I'm looking for a place to get some 250 short cable assemblies from. I've made plenty manually but that doesn't scale.
Needs to be 3(+) conductors, round 4mm-ish cable with a water proof connector (eg JST JWPF) close to one end, JST SPH contacts crimped to the end (PHR-3 without the housing). Nothing on the other end. Any pointers? Needs to ship to NZ

@mcdanlj@social.makerforums.info I know - you did amazing work, and I still get the forum emails but must admit I haven't been around in ages, sorry.

@mcdanlj@social.makerforums.info @josefprusa@mas.to sadly most people simply don't care and just buy whatever cheapest printer they can get hold off and the investment into r&d isn't given consideration in decision making.
I'm very happy with my now ancient and repeatedly improved Eustathios platform and missing the old G+ days where communities were much tighter 🥺

@fritzoids@mas.to wtf, how is this even legal (set aside how it might be challenging to enforce anyway)

@yakmoose@cloudisland.nz @rmi@cloudisland.nz I've come to the conclusion that lora cares amazingly little about antenna quality and you can get away with some very rudimentary stuff.
I'm about to send off a job for 250 lora based trap monitors to the fab using a dead simple PCB trace antenna that's proven on par with a bunch of external quarter wave, ground planes and some others...
Black magic, to me anyway

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange some pharmacies also used to have capabilities to do small scale custom mixtures, more common in tinctures and creams but also pills. I'm sure you can pick up some used machinery somewhere if you're keen

I'll have more to order from them so it would come with free shipping.

@yakmoose@cloudisland.nz I've done Syme hut (Taranaki) directly to Wellington with a small 30mW hand help, but am also pretty impressed how well it does work in dense bush. I found a paper that looks at the signal propagation and it seems mainly along the canopy/air boundary, even when there's a more direct path EG in a valley available

@azonenberg@ioc.exchange my dad worked for a pharmaceutical company and they did manufacture placebos (some of which got handed out during open days - clearly labelled as such).
I grew up with access to sample kits from manufacturers of dissolvable gel capsules and similar slow release mechanisms in all sorts of colours, sizes and shapes. They were mainly filled with vegetable oil if I remember correctly. Fun times.

@parsingphase@m.phase.org I haven't had much luck with Frigate but if you have an audio feed, BirdNet-Go works amazingly well, and can export to birdweather
