@dtgeek@mastodon.social 2032. Most countries have no people anymore. Their identities were deleted years ago. People are gathering in small societies, around islands of solar power. Vegetables are growing, trees fill the eye with green. The remains of the government have long given up. The word "intelligence" means nothing anymore.

My new #Unreal plugin "Spatial Asset Recommender" (paid) is out now on Fab. It recommends assets based on the context of the current level viewport.

Bigger fonts would be needed, yes, and I believe we need a completely different UI for a phone (or a touchscreen in general). Right now, we can use the physical buttons to fake MMB and RMB, but no chording.
The UI is a challenge, because I don't just want to copy-paste existing UIs that resemble android or iOS. Those aren't bad designs, but there's so much potential in Plan 9's experience that I'd like to have in the UI, for example the plumber and some text based stuff.
Afaik, the USB OTG works, so with some hub you can connect mouse and keyboard, but it's not reliable. If the connection breaks, you have to reboot the device. @driusan correct me if I'm wrong.
The biggest issue on my device right now is probably the battery. The axp803 doesn't recognize it fully, so it can't be charged and it doesn't start the modem and a few other components. It shows a percentage, at least.

Unlike inferno, drawterm supports this.

I tried to figure out the correct registers from the data sheets, but all the configurable values look sane by default. Things like auto-detect battery and such. @driusan said that I have to tell it which capacity the battery has. Adventuresin9 did all the work on the pmic, but he only has the pine64 board, so he just checked the pins for power to boot up things.
I need to get my fingers wet and figure out how to properly set it up.

I think it depends a lot on the target group. Do we want a plan 9 phone for our community, or do we want a generic phone for everyone? Both would be possible with plan 9 tech, but the latter needs much more work. As you say, catching up three decades. But we could copy a lot from existing things (which is why it's a pity I didn't talk to the phosh guys).
The former one (9 for our community) needs much less, but as a Plan 9 user I expect a few plan 9 things, which is where we need to invent new wheels. I think that one could be easily built on top of 9front, as we don't expect fancy animations or anything like that. We also don't have that in the base system.
I was also thinking about inventing a devdraw alternative for the phone. Maybe one that includes GPU hardware by design. I wouldn't want to change the whole kernel though, but I'm also not a good person to have the arguments to decide that. I just don't know enough.
What I don't want is a linux gui bolted on top of a plan 9 system. I want to keep the plan 9 feel. Just the way to reach that feeling is totally different on a touch device.

Fr the modem, I plan to write a filesystem for sms and maybe other things. I'll probably use my fsgen utility for that, to speed up development and have an easily maintainable system. If you want, please go on with the other components. Since I'm really not experienced with hardware programming, I think it's easier for me to figure out some small details forst before building completely new drivers from scratch.

My wife's laptop has a GTX 960 (m). It "worked" with nanite back in UE5 EA days, but horribly bad as you can imagine. That device is still in use, but not for gaming and often enough only as a mobile portal to her desktop PC.
