RE: @swiftlang@mastodon.social

Just yesterday, @daniel@social.telemetrydeck.com talked about using Swift for running @telemetrydeck@social.telemetrydeck.com at our @cocoaheads_hh@mastodon.social meetup.
It was really insightful and inspiring.

Swift on the server is serious business now, and this official blog post cements this even further, for TelemetryDeck and the Swift community as a whole.

@_Davidsmith @rafa the visuals, the animations, the features. It all feels right and fits perfectly together. Your work clearly has paid off, and like you said, it feels novel yet familiar. Makes me want to try it out and get excited about the fun presentation. Congratulations on the release!

Replying to
@dasdom @angomarcello It doesn’t seem maintained. We recently tried out Ignite as an alternative, and it’s nice to build from Swift. No long term opinion yet, though. https://github.com/twostraws/Ignite

Widerrufsbutton: Required by German law starting in June 2026

I had a very insightful discussion with @lisa@social.telemetrydeck.com about how the changes will affect apps, and what to do to comply.

Find out more, and get your apps ready: https://telemetrydeck.com/blog/widerrufsbutton/

@superblox @iamkonstantin thanks for the overview. I‘d agree with your priorities, so I’ll have a look out for Flatpak distributions — and maybe my next server will be running Debian again 🙌

@superblox @iamkonstantin sounds like a great improvement! Is flatpak the „winner“? Without following it, it seemed like there were quite a few attempts at new packaging formats in the last few years.

@iamkonstantin I used to run Debian for many years but found its stable nature somewhat limiting when it comes to getting new app versions easily. Maybe that is a personal problem since I sometimes run into it nowadays using Ubuntu Server LTS as well. I’ve never had any actual issues with the Distro though, so I can 100% echo your sentiment!

@finestructure@mastodon.social I thought I tested this, and that we even discussed this in the team. Probably the timing of the requests was misleading in the test case. TIL, thanks for your input on this! @mattiem@mastodon.social

I just noticed data was loading slow from network calls „a“ and „b“ because

_ = await (a, b)

runs them sequentially. I was pretty sure I tested with 5.x that it was equivalent to

async let aN = a
async let bN = b
await (aN, bN)

Is this a consequence of #Swift‘s #Concurrency changes up until 6.3, or was I just wrong?

@dasdom@chaos.social @helge@mastodon.social As an idea off the top of my head, you could use your knowledge together with a more approachable language (like Swift or Rust) to pave the way for a more memory-safe world of Pebble and other embedded devices. Swift Embedded is still in its infancy, for example, and IMO the embedded world could really use ideas of better tooling, package managers, …

RE: @leogdion@c.im

Working on iOS projects which define their tooling and project structure declaratively (using mise and tuist) is such a pleasure!
I enjoy it every day, and it becomes more helpful the more people work on a project.

If you haven’t gotten into it, this sounds like the perfect workshop to get you going.

Apple announced John Ternus as its next CEO.

I believe with every new leader come changes in what they strive for and what they are good at — with Ternus I hope the rest of the company gets up to speed with how impeccable their hardware is right now.

It would make them unstoppable.

At the same time, managing three Macs is becoming a bit burdensome.

After 15 years, I switched away from #iTerm2 and towards #WezTerm which allows hot-reloaded dotfiles-style configuration.

Together with #GnuStow, a simple git pull is enough, and the terminal is in sync!

Really love this, and feel like more apps should offer this kind of configuration (at least developer tools). Synchronizing plist preferences is a pain.

@paul @slizeray it is hard because the developers rely on the backend they have no control over. Apple would need to provide some guidance or a fix. Either way, working together so that the issues that are surfacing are solved would be most productive.

@ghalldev Perfect. As long as you can provide the data required in the EU trader from on App Store Connect, then it should be fine. (No legal advice obviously) I had some problems with getting calls or SMS for verification of my number, so be prepared for that. If everything goes smoothly, it should be fairly quick to do

@ghalldev congrats on shipping. It’s always a rush to press the release for the very first time. In the EU, when you sell software, you need to be available to the customer directly, i.e., register as a trader just to be sure. My rule of thumb is: as soon as you make any money from it.

Nice summary of what is in the Claude Code source leak.

> accidentally shipping your source map to npm is the kind of mistake that sounds impossible until you remember that a significant portion of the codebase was probably written by the AI you are shipping.
