Blacksky also appears to be having problems. This might be obvious to those who understand things better than I do, but my impression was that they were going quite far to be as independent as possible. @stux

If anyone in or around #Copenhagen or #Oslo need spare parts for a #fairphone3, I have a device with a broken core module where everything else should be working fine. Happy to give away parts to anyone who needs it!

The camera is upgraded to 3+. The battery has some sticker marks but works well, and the plastic back cover is slightly damaged but stays attached without issue.

Alternatively if anyone has a broken #fairphone_3 with a functional core module I'd be interested in buying! :)

The Commission (career bureaucrats+indirectly elected officials) proposes laws, Parliament (directly elected) and the Council (member state representatives) pass these into law. They are entirely separate institutions. The Commission has no control over the opinions of a party group in the Parliament. The only thing we can do to get rid of these people is to vote them out. @kriom @EUCommission

Claiming the argument is not made in good faith by a serious person seems to miss the mark pretty badly. Scott Jenson does not match this description, and we should do better. Similarly, @carnage4life does not appear to be some huge AI evangelist. [Edit: It seems I'm probably wrong here] To me the story here is that Mastodon gives less voice to central nodes in the network, instead distributing the conversation. That may indeed be bad for journalists, but maybe good for us. @fasterandworse

RE: https://hostux.social/@sab/116415418096949951 Blacksky.community has at least been down today as well, and is still not loading on my end. Seems unlikely that it would be completely unrelated. @fresseng @stux Edit: @eurosky.social say they remained online, though they admit that the practical benefits of this are limited when Bluesky is down. I can currently only access their post claiming to be online via Mastodon, as it is not available on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:ooensn4mr5mhznzypvxelfa3/post/3mjmwi4j2es2d

Yeah, I was running out of characters to express my point properly there. It's clearly bad for influencers and those who thrive on algorithmic social media, including a lot of what journalism has become. I think it's good for good investigative journalists who don't post a lot, but who produce quality content when they do. I think it's more fair to say that algorithmic social media has been bad for journalism, but those who thrived there will have to reinvent here. @froztbyte @fasterandworse

I read it as playing with expectations. From the first stanza we believe the protagonist considers things to be falling apart _because_ anarchism is on the loose; however, in the final stanza we learn that our hero is themselves part of the turn to anarchism, as an appropriate response to everything going to shit. Anarchy has been let loose, and bludgeoning the POTUS with the complete works of Yeats is a perfect expression thereof. @timwaterman@mas.to @brianbilston@mastodon.online

Free as in beer, not as in liberty. It's not free software. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software That said, I recently made the same change. LibreWolf was not for me, and FireFox is no longer for me, so I'm on @Vivaldi until @servo is ready. @elduvelle @daltux @Gargron

I guess like me he was oblivious to the broader agenda of this poster. The whole debate looks very different before and after learning more about @carnage4life. I maintain that it's made in good faith, but that of course does not mean that it's a good point. @fasterandworse

Thanks for this episode! I really appreciate the discussion of the Tisza party - I have found it incredibly difficult to know how optimistic or not to feel about them, and it's great to hear the honest reflections of people who know much more than me about the subject. In either case Orbán losing power would of course give cause for celebration in its own right. :) @europeanspodcast@mastodon.social

Yeah, it's really unfortunate - we've come to expect "official" accounts are only doing one-way interaction, so we tend to treat them as the faceless bots we expect them to be. I feel a bit bad for whoever runs the @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu account sometimes for the same reason. It's a natural consequence of large social media platforms moving away from genuine interaction towards a broadcasting model, but it really takes a lot of effort to snap out of. @Aethel@mastodon.social @europeanspodcast@mastodon.social @papuass@toot.lv

There's no standardized way of handling end-to-end encryption in Email, so a few providers (@Tutanota@mastodon.social and Proton, to my knowledge) offer their own in-house solutions for it. These solutions render the services incompatible with the standards powering clients like Thunderbird. It also is limited to emails within the same provider. The only real solution would probably be an update of the e-mail protocol to allow for standardized E2EE. @agowa338@chaos.social

@da5nsy Thanks! I managed to forget the device in Copenhagen when leaving for Oslo for a month, so currently I'm not moving forward with this. I'll absolutely check out my options once I'm reunited with it!

Yeah, I based my judgment on the posts I have seen doing well on fedi as well as a quick screening of the profile mostly going after MTG. Clearly I was wrong here. I still think @scottjenson is worth taking seriously, though he (as me) seemingly failed to be a good judge of character in this case. Shit happens without it being evidence of bad faith. @froztbyte @zzt @fasterandworse

We are a bit of a pedantic bunch on here (to say the least), but at least I generally get the feeling that it's well meaning rather than coming from a "gotcha" culture of sorts. But for sure though, it's can be easy to come across as unkind online even when it's well meaning! @papuass@toot.lv @Aethel@mastodon.social @europeanspodcast@mastodon.social

I picked up right away that the guy was a lousy farmer with no cows, so pretty happy about that! I guess it helps being a Scandinavian who understands German, has Scottish friends, and knows enough Dutch to know what a bauer is. There's a lot of words from all over the place. @beatricejess @Natasha_Jay

That's great news—I refuse to read anything on Substack, which is a sometimes frustrating principled stance to have taken. Do you know if they plan on enabling ActivityPub? @skinnylatte@hachyderm.io
