I met a person at last congress. They were interested in the visuals I was doing there. Some time later they told me they organize a drum n bass event in the south of Sweden. So now I'll be joining their crew the coming five days. It's going to be a lot of fun!

I went through my sticker box and picked out the hexagonal NGI ones. These are some of the projects that risk reduced to no funding when EU decides to put tax money into AI projects instead.

When I was at the university we had a Swedish book in the algebra course. It's not a bad book but now that I decided to reboot mathematics I'd like to have a book in English. It's a bit unfortunate they decided to pick this book, especially since algebra is an important subject used in all subsequent fields, explaining concepts in Swedish is very unhelpful for future studies.

Anyway, what's a good English algebra book in your opinion?

Anyone had any issues with their eyes because too much screen time? My eyelids start to twitch and my eyes get sore of I focus on something for too long.

@cryptix @tty There's no slope. On a speed vs time graph it's just two horizontal lines.

@aleph_omega_plus_four @AdrianRiskin I don't mind that though. It's quite nice to have an algebra book go deeper into "pure" algebra (if I may use that wording) and instead read about abstract algebra etc in some other book. I guess it's the whole breadth vs depth trade off.

A car travels from point A to point B with a speed of 50km/h and then travels back to A with a speed of 100km/h. What's the average speed of the car for the whole distance?

@AdrianRiskin Wonderful! I think this book I have kind of brushes over many topics so it isn't that deep by nature, hence the many topics. So it's nice in the way that it introduces many topics. Not too worried about linear algebra for now. Pretty sure I can find some really good and hopefully a bit deeper books on that as well later on. Thanks!

There are so many different branches in mathematics. Do you know of any resources that gives a good overview over them and how they are connected? Bonus points if it has historic references.

@lou_de_sel @delta @ArcaneChat Good question! If you use a vpn which doesn't allow LAN connections you could at least make it harder for them to add their device as second device. Difficult to realize they have done this unless they start writing messages on your behalf and you can tell something was written that wasn't you.

@tty Graphing it is a good way to help out with the intuition here I think. The key here I guess is that it's 50km/h for so much longer time right? This is why the average speed isn't 75, which it would be if the second leg of the trip was longer.

I can solve this by using e.g. nodemon --exec python main.py but I'd prefer to use something else than nodemon.

Are there any computer monitors that are more ergonomic than others when it comes to being easier on your eyes? Alternatively if there are filters that you can use that helps your eyes.
