If you want one hot tip: find ways to reduce the guessing an llm does, claw back the decision making. This gave me a lot of confidence when working with these things. Two good examples are neurosymbolic approaches like https://yogthos.net/posts/2026-04-08-neurosymbolic-mcp.html or https://bsky.app/profile/winter.razorgirl.diy - be whimsical with it but don’t yourself be at the systems whims.

I feel pretty alienated from a lot of my friends. I share a lot of their concerns about loss of agency and atrophy of skill. Of course the hype is overblown. I don’t think newer models are proving to generalize like people want them to. Why would we need so many dimensions on these benchmarks. But, I think, it’s proven that we can train certain skills effectively, deep mind showed this years ago. These systems are becoming _competent_ at level 1 incredibly fast.

While I like talking about the 2nd order effects of AI, on our brains and wellbeing as a society, the extractive business practices of the big labs, loss of agency, etc., I think it’s important to keep an eye on what these things _can_ do. Fighting over consciousness or not being able to count misses the tree for the forest.

I really like this study because it talks about capabilities compared to humans. It’s uncomfortable but IMHO worthwhile, even if you just read the intro and results.

@p2panda@autonomous.zone @postmarketOS@social.treehouse.systems @modal@mastodon.design I feel like postmarket is the only mobile OS that could lead the way towards installing shared system services for Apps. iOS surely won’t and AOSP? Good luck getting things in there…

@thinkb4coding@mastodon.social @davidcelis@xoxo.zone I could have made this clearer but I agree that Silicon Valley fueled AI brings out the worst. Yet I also think the problem you outlined was a a thing before llms and vibe coding and we didn’t tackle it then because it’s more of an organizational then technical one. Now people actually have a toy to circumvent the problem, probably making it even worse. See linked in “vibe coding fixers”

@thinkb4coding@mastodon.social @davidcelis@xoxo.zone In my years in this space I heard this so many times, and people usually nod, yet I can’t see any meaningful change. The people who like the coding part still rather build shiny new toys, mostly for themselves. And I mean, sure, you do you, but this isn’t driving adoption for people that try to solve their everyday problems.

@tty @rtn this is a fascinating subject to me… how easy is if for you to create plots like that? Like how much mental work do you have to do to get the slope right?

@dantescanline@autonomous.zone between “oh.. well.. actually this stuff is to expensive to replace human workers” and “this is to dangerous for general use” and “oh no! Not that dangerous” it’s been a wild 🎢
