On a whim I bought this fun little #Transformers Blokees blind box to see what it was like. I got Wheeljack! These are pretty cheap - they're the smallest ones (ballpen for scale). You need to assemble them, but its not too hard even with my poor dexterity. Its a pretty clever product because I can see these as being nice cheap gifts for kids, but the blind box gives it collector appeal too.
If #ubuntu is gonna start doing "AI" nonsense (https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/the-future-of-ai-in-ubuntu/81130), I assume #LinuxMint will be affected as well? It would make me explore other distros earlier than i expected
I always try to note whenever the #Philippines makes an appearance in international #comics. This page is from Punisher War Journal (1988) no. 21, written by Carl Potts #marvel

Look, I'm tired of talking about "AI" too. Yet this essay was very good, framing the use of this technology (and others) through the lens of fascism. Very long though.

I would like some kind of browser extension where if I click a link to a post on a #fediverse instance, it will automatically redirect to the server where my own fediverse account is (#mastodon for me, I suppose I will have to configure this in the extension settings) and load that post on my server, so I can comment/like/boost without having to go through the whole "To continue, you need to reply from your account." modal dialog

> "Even if the danger isn’t as existential as the doomiest doomers imagine ... I believe this is a great opportunity for humanity to prove that we can actually make choices about the development and deployment of powerful technology. If we can’t, then we are not as sovereign as we imagine; if we can’t, a machine god has already taken over this planet, and it’s called the market."
"When a programming tool is unreliable, completely resists mental-modeling, and is incapable of consistently rejecting invalid input, I think it’s reasonable to say it’s not fit for purpose, and is certainly not the future of programming. We simply cannot develop mental models of AI through traditional means. But we have to remember that just because we don’t understand it doesn’t mean it’s hiding secret insight or power."

Let the bounce rate speak for itself. These are vanity metrics until enough people stop vanishing into them and then suddenly they become a crisis."
"The speed of writing code was never your problem. If you thought it was, the gap between that belief and reality is where all your actual problems live. The competitive advantage doesn't go to the team that writes code fastest. It goes to the team that figured out what to build, built it, and got it into users' hands while everyone else was still drowning in a review queue full of AI-generated PRs that nobody has the time or the energy to read."

"...but this is precisely the reason Silicon Valley keeps trying to force futures on consumers that they emphatically don’t want. A VC who is incapable of self-reflection will never notice that his bets on the future of consumerism are failing in exactly the same way every time. That VC hasn’t noticed, and indeed can’t notice, that his experience isn’t representative of what the ordinary person wants or needs."
