@Chancerubbage @Barbramon1 @oldclumsy_nowmad @CStamp But then again the huge snowstorm at the end of January also caused a phenomenal surge being pushed from east to west through Lake Ontario that pretty much ended dead centre in Toronto. The balls weren't even in the water any more by the time I got there. But they were rock hard. Very difficult to pry off the ground. Here's a video from Lake Michigan of these ice balls in the water: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63QOaNji1QQ

I was at the Scarborough Bluffs beach today. The entire 1-km-long 100-meter-wide beach is covered with cabbage-sized frozen snowballs. Must have happened during the snowstorm. Does any one know the science behind how this happened? #meteorology #cryosphere #TorontoWeather #greatlakes #lakeontario #hydrology

@leftylabourtech@mstdn.social @RantingCanuck@mstdn.ca BC has coops like Kooteney coop. Toronto has Karma coop. I'm just saying I'd rather see government promoting this sort of thing. For example, funding vertical integration in the form of wholesaling and white-label production.

@leftylabourtech@mstdn.social @RantingCanuck@mstdn.ca I'm a firm believer that the government should stick to governing and leave the work to the rest of us. Too many disasters with horribly inefficient government-run enterprises. And who is to say the next government wouldn't turn around and sell it like they've done in the past. And no, I'd much rather decide myself how my 10 dollars is invested meaningfully than give it to the LCBO so Doug Ford can build his 401 tunnels or nuclear power plants.

I know it's a long shot, but does anyone out there have any recommendations for the Meridian Credit Union board elections?

@jpalmer Privatization was a really smart move on the part of the Liberals in the 90s. They sold CN with its 27,000 km of track in Canada (along with buildings, rolling stock, track in the US) for 2.2 billion dollar (around 3.8 billion in today's dollars). Recently, the Ontario government bought back 200 km of that track (0.7% of the 27,000km) for 135,000,000 dollars (3.5% of the 3.8 billion). Why can't they learn from their failures or are they ignoring them on purpose?

@dubstar_04@fosstodon.org I've got pmos working on a fp4, too. How's Wi-Fi working for you with v25.12.? I've had bugginess creep in with a lot of ath10k_snoc firmware errors.

@leftylabourtech@mstdn.social They should just promote and give grants to food coops, i.e. coops owned and run by consumers and grocery store workers.

@leftylabourtech@mstdn.social @RantingCanuck@mstdn.ca LCBO is a perfect example of why I don't trust the idea of a government-run grocery store. Why do I pay 15 dollars for a bottle of wine here that cost me 3 euros in German? It's a total rip off.

@leftylabourtech@mstdn.social @RantingCanuck@mstdn.ca Coop in Switzerland may not be a worker-run supermarket chain, but it is consumer driven. Consumers can become members and participate in the democratic structures that run the company. It is the biggest chain in Switzerland, has banks and does wholesale and explicitly works for the benefit of its member and not for profit. And the second biggest chain in Switzerland is also a cooperative.
