Watching an episode of Tales From The Crypt on Shudder, (s5, ep1 "Death of Some Salesman") in which Tim Curry plays 5 (!) roles.
(nope, 3, still...)

Edit: Ok. This is extremely twisted and in questionable taste. A+

First full listen through of Boards of Canada Inferno. It's amazing to me that they've kept this vibe going for decades now and still can find fresh ways to approach it. This doesn't sound like any other BoC record while still sounding like a BoC record.

Also, I find it interesting that for the first (?) time, one of the dudes is credited with writing and production. The last 2 records have been "written, recorded, produced by Boards of Canada". They also list what tools each of them "played" on the record. So it seems one guy plays the instruments and does sound design and the other guy just mostly does sound design.

Anyway, great record. A+

Reclaiming some hipster cred after posting about my love for a mainstream 90s country record. Finally grabbed a copy of this in the wild, at my local in Brattleboro #Vermont. Great copy. Absolutely clean. If only for aesthetic reasons all my Kraftwerk albums are in the original versions. #Vermont #vinyl #NowSpinning #VinylRecords

Was watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind for the first time in decades the other night. Not surprisingly, holds up. But this was a fun bit of trivia I discovered, a young Lance Hendrickson in a non-speaking role during the final sequence.

I’m not a big believer in guilty pleasures in regard to music: it’s either a bop you dig or it isn’t, no judgement*. But this record is as close to a a guilty pleasure as I ever come. Big production 90s Country in wake of the Dixie Chicks selling buckets of records. I first saw a video for Strawberry Wine on late night cable while staying up at a house I didn’t live in and I was like, damn that gets me right in my sentiments. Which is amusing, a song about a farm girl losing her virginity to make me feel melancholy. But I bought the CD Did I Shave My Legs For This? and it was full of bangers. I listen to it every year at least and songs come up on the iPod shuffle algorithm and it is still charming to me. The vinyl is a 20th anniversary release that’s been on my want list for a while. Prices have bounced around between $90 and $40 but I hung tight and it came up for $20 in a what looked to be a person selling a personal collection. Even then I waffled for few days. You know what? It was an ace purchase. This #vinyl release sounds terrific.

This is a weird one for me cause of my Boston rock past, and never was a band I listened to much. But J was a fan and got an extra copy of this so now I have a copy. And in my wizened years it’s a fun listen. Band is tight. Drummer is S Tier. @SpaceAce #vinyl #NowSpinning #vinylcollection

So, after casting about for a bit, I've decided the next record I'm going to work on is a 2nd Occidental Dirt Farmers record. Back when I was going through all old DAW projects, I sorted out 7 demos (let's call them) that would be the basis of this record.

The impetus behind ODF is that it is music I create using non-linear music software. Think Ableton Live's Session View--in fact, these tracks all started in Live. But I've converted all my Live projects to Bitwig so that's where I'll finish writing these songs. I create a grid of my different musical phrases and samples and improvise an arrangement. It's alls software and samples, in the box, as they say. Then bring those recorded tracks into Reaper and mix them, maybe add a few bits and bobs, and Bob's yr uncle.

The first ODF record actually started life in a short-lived software by Cakewalk that was meant to compete with Reason & Live, called Project 5. I was on the beta testing team. The software didn't last long but I the tracks on that record all began as projects made in Project 5, and then embellished and mixed in Cakewalk Sonar.

It may be my least 'popular' record. But I like these tracks and think they hold up.

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@briankrebs/116890719090826544 You know what would really help improve road safety? A robust and reliable multi-regional rail system.

Feels like all of us (even people w/out a car) need to pay way more attention to the WTAF new rules affecting EU and US folk, requiring all new cars to include a driver monitoring camera aimed at your face. "Glance at your phone, your kids in the back seat, or the radio for too long, and the car will flash a warning light and sound an alert," reads a recent post from Allaboutcookies.org. https://allaboutcookies.org/eu-mandatory-distracted-driver-system First spotted this story in the Risky Business newsletter yesterday and have been reading as much as I can about it ever since. https://risky.biz/RBNEWS587/ Risky's @campuscodi@mastodon.social writes the new regulation has entered into effect in the EU on Monday and will enter into effect next year in the US. In the EU, the new camera requirement is part of the block's second General Safety Regulation (GSR2), a broader swath of new safety rules introduced for the auto industry and designed to improve road safety. https://www.inkl.com/news/new-eu-car-safety-rules-take-effect-7-july-how-your-car-could-monitor-you https://www.gadgetreview.com/federal-surveillance-tech-becomes-mandatory-in-new-cars-by-2027 This is some next level Orwellian shit. My dreams of one day replacing one of our cars with an electric vehicle just got much darker.

Thought I'd give record.club a try. A place to log the records I've been listening to other than occasionally dropping a photo/blurb here.

Started a list of every vinyl record played in 2026. (I started it late so there's some from the beginning of the year I'm sure are missing)

Missing J today. Wish he was here so we could talk about Hot Chocolate—while I had known the hits he got me to get into the deep cuts.

This is very much Hot Chocolate leaning into the disco sound, at the tail-end of disco's cultural significance. The thing is, Hot Chocolate was never just a disco/funk band. Their first 3 records have a lot of range. There are flavors British Invasion, psychedelic, funk, northern soul, throughout their catalog.
Still, I would describe this as a "dance record" which at that time meant disco. But in practically also meant soul/funk. But it's still a Hot Chocolate record. Instead of disco strings there are funky synths. The bass playing is amazing. Side 2 is stronger, more funk with a bit of new wave in there. This is not my favorite Hot Chocolate record but it will be in rotation and if I have a dance party it will be getting some play.

@gloriousnoise@heads.social I have a flattener It works some of the times great. Some of the times the warp is too stubborn. At one point J sent me several warped albums to see if I could rescue them. It worked on a couple. A couple were beyond repair. I was able to save his Exile on Main Street as one of the 2 platters was warped.

I saw someone on here express sympathy toward Graham because apparently he adopted his younger sister after their parents death so she could share his military benefits and nah. Shit bird spent his entire career trying to make sure no one else received the benefits he gave his sister, including veterans benefits. Miss me with that. #uspol
