Good to have things clarified.

@tdforg@fosstodon.org had to spend a lot of energies in battling conflicting interests which led having to stronger rules to avoid those issues in the future

Once the legal consultations are over and the matters are settled, #Collabora's developers will be able to reapply for full membership

#TDF has developers that constantly improve #LibreOffice and will employ more guaranteeing a bright future for LibreOffice and the community

Were you donating to @fsfe@mastodon.social?

Then you might want to update your payment method to keep supporting one of your preferred #Freesoftware organisations.

@gsalvisberg I'll reply in English as my German is not good enough; 1) Mistakes were made but instead of fixing them some made them worse. more info: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/04/10/qa-about-media-articles-and-forum-comments/ 2) Alternatives are coming along hopefully with ODF as standard 3) They will over time 4) Sometimes charitable laws clash with business interests 5) Biased answer: support #LibreOffice 🙂 6) I agree and dragging @tdforg in public arguments where we are forced to counter biased posts with facts doesn't help anyone @gnulinux

Q&A about Media Articles and Forum Comments - TDF Community Blog

Over the past week, a number of articles have appeared in the media and comments have been posted on forums containing questions – some explicitly stated and others implied – directed at The Document Foundation. We have done our best to gather all these questions and provide a response that clarifies The Document Foundation’s position regarding the claims made in a couple of online posts and the resulting inferences drawn by readers who are only partially informed of the facts. Some of the quest

@gsalvisberg@mastodontech.de TDF tried to avoid a public dispute in the hope that ongoing legal consultations would lead to positive results soon. In the meantime the board implemented policies, rules and bylaws to reduce the risk of having these types of behaviours in the future. Some didn't like of having rules reducing their opportunities to influence the foundation and went public with very biased comments forcing TDF to hint at the actual issues that led to these rules. @libreoffice@fosstodon.org @tdforg@fosstodon.org

@gsalvisberg@mastodontech.de Didn't realise you asked questions here as well before providing some hints in another thread. 1) As the Q&A hints to, the issues derived from an apparent unwillingness by some to understand that a foundation under German laws cannot be subservient to their business interests. Even once the issues were made clear with the help of legal specialists the same people made it impossible to fix governance and issues. @libreoffice@fosstodon.org @tdforg@fosstodon.org

@abuehling@zirk.us in this case other dynamics were at play and the linked article has very little connection with reality. It would be great if people writing articles did a bit more research about what they write but I guess controversy attract clicks while actual facts are boring: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/04/05/lets-put-an-end-to-the-speculation/

Ideally, we would have preferred to avoid this post. However, the articles and comments published in response to Collabora’s and Michael Meeks’ biased posts compel us to provide this background information on the events that led to the current situation. Unfortunately, we have to start from the very beginning, but we’ll try to keep it brief. The launch of the LibreOffice project and The Document Foundation was handled with great enthusiasm by the founding group. They were driven by a noble goal,

Replying to
@spaetz I totally agree that the situation is not optimal and that it should have been fixed a long time ago. Naturally Michael Meeks is free to express his opinions on his own blog and his own company website so at least there he doesn't get told to stop spreading biased statements that aren't helping neither his company nor the community. Lots of clarifications are overdue to stop speculations: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/04/05/lets-put-an-end-to-the-speculation/

@ploum Well... unfortunately that "clarification" is completely incorrect. It is understandable that many are confused as TDF hasn't officially and strongly reacted to many biased public statements over the years to avoid fuelling unnecessary public dramas but it is now clear that it left room to speculations that are not helping anyone: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/04/05/lets-put-an-end-to-the-speculation/ @halfa @italovignoli #libreoffice #opensource

Replying to
@halfa It was explained to the members of the board of trustees as a notification related to these issues and their membership. These are issues that have been dragging on for years, as explained in the post, and one would have hoped that it wouldn't have been necessary to make a public post about it as it could have been just an understandable minor inconvenience for some. Someone instead decided to make it look like they were being kicked out creating unnecessary drama. @ploum @italovignoli
