@ploum@mamot.fr Les migrations de gens pas passionnés par l'informatique étant compliquées, je préfère éviter de recommander un silo duquel on devra encore s'échapper quand il se merdifiera, soit parce qu'il devra devenir rentable, soit pour se plier à la législation du pays qui l'héberge et se fascise à vitesse grand V. En plus, j'aime bien les trucs qu'on peut bidouiller et s'approprier, plutôt que ce qu'on me donne à utiliser sans possibilité de participer à sa gouvernance.

@poulpomancien@toot.aquilenet.fr tu n'as pas cité le 3ème protocole, le plus permacomputing-friendly, le plus facile à déployer sur un grille-pain connecté, qui n'appartient à aucune entité privée à but lucratif, dont la gouvernance est ouverte et démocratique et sur lequel mon opinion n'est absolument pas biaisée... :drumroll: the eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol ;-)

Décentralisation, protocole ouvert, pas d'hostilité aux clients alternatifs, autohebergeable, pas de nécessité d'avoir un smartphone avec OS mainstream... Je punk-valide, du haut de mon autorité de wannabe-punk (en fait je suis plutôt un quinoa-bobolchevique, mais c'est un secret ne me balance pas).

Indépendance des GAFAMs c'est une bonne idée, donc je veux pas être trop négatif sur Tchap/Matrix.

Ça ne règle aucun problème, il faut quand même un compte signal, mais si comme moi vous préférez tous vos chats dans un seul client, ça le fait.

Que c'est mieux que Signal, parce que c'est décentralisé et que tu peux héberger ton serveur.
Que c'est moins bien que #XMPP parce que c'est beaucoup plus gourmand en ressources et que c'est principalement piloté par une startup avec des investisseurs. Mais je suis entièrement biaisé puisque impliqué dans XMPP et anticapitaliste.

@poulpomancien@toot.aquilenet.fr je suis OK que c'est compliqué, mais je trouve justement intéressant de profiter d'occasions pour montrer que tout n'est pas "app", mais qu'il existe un truc qui peut être utilisé par plusieurs apps, proposé par plusieurs fournisseurs, et que tout marche ensemble, même si les couleurs sont différentes, bref parler d'interopérabilité et de déminitelisation de nos vies numériques. Je suis ambitieux je sais, mais j'aime pas le capitalisme c'est plus fort que moi !

Movim is a client. It connects to an XMPP server. This server can federate with all open-for-federation XMPP servers out there. De-federating with some servers is also an option, that's less common in practice that on ActivityPub, but anything is possible. Does that answer your question? (which I am not entirely sure I understood ^^)

C'est du chiffrement "end-to-bridge", la passerelle déchiffre les messages. Entre ton client et le serveur y a du TLS (sauf si tu vis en 2005 ^^). OMEMO, ça serait pas impossible mais ÀMHA c'est une explosion de complexité pour des tout petits bénéfices niveau sécurité (puisque la passerelle voit le message en clair à un moment).

I wouldn't call signal a "small nonprofit" when they pay ~$800K/year their top executives. Besides that, any voIP number does not work, it often hits their antispam measures.

@irrlicht Et effectivement, ce stockage serait la raison pour laquelle rajouter une couche OMEMO apporterait un petit qqch. Mais à mon avis ça vaut pas le coup. Cependant, si un contributeur très motivé veut implémenter ça optionnellement, je suis ravi de review la contribution et la fusionner quand elle est clean. =)

Shameless self-plug: you can run https://codeberg.org/slidge/matridge/ on your server and talk to your friends on Matrix, they generally won't be able to tell the difference compared to when you were using . The reciprocal is sadly not true.

Disclaimer: I'm biased towards XMPP and have not tried to host a Matrix server or convert friends.
XMPP is generally lighter, as a consequence of both a simpler (saner :P) protocol and mature server implementations.
Usability for "non techie" is very fine on mobile with Conversations (Android) and Monal (iOS). My mother uses it, and I'm 41.
Generally people say that Element (Matrix client) has more features and is more polished than what we have. It's all a matter of taste IMHO.
