Installed a #solar panel in my garden. It cost only 65€ but generates over 300W of power for several hours on sunny days, which (by feeding into a power station) allows me to use my computer completely disconnected from mains grid.
It's so cool that PV tech had come so far that powering random appliances is not only feasible, but reasonably cheap.
I'm currently working on a write-up about the project, which I'm hoping to post soonish.
Learning about #Emacs 's `C-M-` keybindings made such a difference when editing #Scheme code.
I used to think surely structural editing is overrated and I can get by with just the normal movement keys, but no, being able to grab entire forms with `C-M-k` or jump around with `C-M-b` and `C-M-f` is amazing.
Now if only I could grok Paredit too... `C-` and `C-` suddenly doing something completely different definitely sent me into a spin a couple of times already.
Installed AC in my room after several years of experiencing 30+˚C indoor temperatures. It uses almost a kilowatt of electricity, but it turns out my two-panel #solar setup can drive it, so now I'm using the sun to keep out the sun, at no additional cost.
Totally magical.
About a month since I switched my PC over to #solar.
My household's electricity usage dropped by a third(!) and the bill nearly halved (around here you get a limited quota of cheaper electricity every month, above which the price nearly triples, hence the discrepancy).
I did occasionally need to plug my power station into the mains during gloomy days when I needed my PC urgently, but generally my daily usage easily fits into the 1kWh limit of the battery.
Very satisfied!
$DAYJOB asked me to transition away from TypeScript and start learning #golang
First impressions so far is that Go is so close to being an incredible language, but it feels like the creators just decided to be overly cautious in the weirdest places. `val, err` over discriminated unions, the rules around `:=`, use of `_` to make in-dev code compile, etc.
Still, I'm excited to finally use a properly static-typed language after so much ducking and dodging TS's, uh, unique behaviors.

My biggest #Mastodon pet peeve so far is the fact that in the "Advanced Web Interface" a good 30-40% of my screen is simply left unused and the fix would be one line of #CSS: Putting `flex-grow: 1` on the `column` class.
And yet despite numerous issues raised about this since like 2018 (see https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/8632 for the list) it was only ever met with silence or the issue being closed with an irrelevant PR being linked.
I know how to use Tampermonkey or inject CSS. It shouldn't be necessary.
Been reading about #BSD systems lately, as I'm trying to set up a tiny #HomeServer. Fascinating systems, I really like the whole "the base system should serve most needs" concept and the docs are delightful. I feel a lot of that lost sense of discovery I last felt while first learning Linux.
I just wish they weren't surrounded by so much superiority-jerking. It really feels like a vocal minority of BSD proponents define themselves less by what they stand for and more by what they stand against
