If you just learned (or are just now learning) that Sticker Mule is run by a hardcore Maga guy, and would like an alternative, may I suggest Sticker Ninja? They are a small but mighty Portland local company and their quality is much, much better than Mule anyway. Their glitter stickers are especially great. They have actual humans doing careful prepress work on your design - one of them is a friend of mine and she's a real pro.

I shared this privately before, but I just got the okay to share it in public. The Bluegrass Archive is online with a website and everything. This is a MASSIVE trove of legal live #bluegrass recordings from earliest days right up to now, which you can download and listen to for free. It is one of the greatest achievements of the fan-driven #music archiving community I've ever seen. I contributed a small number of filesets out of the thousands here. #music

@noirlover @thesizzler both of those actually circulate in SBD as well. I didn't upload them only bc they're not new. If you're interested you can likely find them on the Archive, if not let me know

@irelephant@calckey.world @benroyce@mastodon.social the suspension imposed by the BlueSky moderation team is *absolutely* impacting the Blacksky instance. I'm not interested in calling anyone a cultist. I think the noncommercial, truly decentralized Fedi/Masto model is correct even though the current technical implementation and culture(s) are both problematic, but my take has been that *if Bluesky has the inherent flaws I believe it does*, those will reveal themselves over time. And it seems that is happening now.

@thesizzler my main advice is that if anything isn't working for you skip to the jam or the next tune Phil vox can be really wild at times (not at all complimentary) Like the 10.8 Tomorrow Never Knows encore The vox are extraordinarily, remarkably bad But the soundscape/feedback jamming is spectacular (I've already made an edited version)

@Rushkoff the fundamental distinction I'd draw is that the federated space is noncommercial - a non capitalist network embedded in capitalist infrastructure - and therefore its success criteria are not the growth-centric ones of a capitalist endeavor. What those criteria should be/are is under discussion and consensus will emerge over time. But "grow or die" ain't it - beware of analyses framing Fediverse dynamics in terms defined by prior social media platforms driven by profit concerns

@benroyce@mastodon.social @irelephant@calckey.world FWIW, my perception is that the fact that Fedi hasn't addressed the harassment concerns of Black users is crippling what would otherwise be an exponentially larger migration right now. Given that this drama centers on Blacksky you might think there will be an exodus, but Masto and Fedi have been labeled flatly unsafe for Black users *by that community* and people are strongly advising against the move. Huge L for Masto right now that should be an easy W

@caravan @4CPcomics well thanks for saying this bc it made me realize that I converted a *great* '81 tape from shn to flac but never circulated that version, so I will soon - id 14195 is the shn version, 7.10.81 St. Paul, a classic '81 good tape from a room that didn't always sound very nice. There's a pull from the Boston Garden 5.12 that's another clean tape pulled from an echo chamber...maybe the 700s drums > space > UJB > PITB > China Doll > PITB > UJB is pretty heady

@benroyce@mastodon.social @irelephant@calckey.world sure, word. The only thing out of all that I would differ on is: there absolutely are many *users* on BS who are under-informed about their choices and the nature of the platforms, largely bc they're overwhelmed with life in general rn. Those are exactly the people who *should* be here, whether now or eventually. I mention the issue with Black users as a frustrating aside, not relevant to the core point. Bluesky certainly is NOT decentralized in any meaningful way.

@benroyce@mastodon.social @irelephant@calckey.world well, you do you, and it's not that I think those people don't exist; that's the central contradiction which I have always assumed will lead to ridiculous meltdowns, as we are seeing now. But not everyone that has positive thoughts about atproto vs actpub, or the current *sky community vs here, or other non-Fedi-centric views, falls in that category. The whole reason I'm active on BS is to act as a bridge and that means speaking to the persuadable in non polarizing terms.

@danilo@hachyderm.io I have friends in the music business, and there are some iconic acts whose slow decision making speed (because everything ultimately has to go through the artists AND agents AND labels) has saved them from launching garbage NFT projects. I know of a few specific big legacy act names who had given a go ahead to the concept, but by the time the assets were near approval the trend had passed and they were quietly killed. Inertia isn't always bad I guess

@AuthorJMac yep, because all existing LLMs (there is no "AI" outside of marketing) were developed and evolved in the context of competitive capitalism and born from unethical IP-resource extraction. Other LLMs could in theory exist, with ethically sourced training sets, non capitalistic directives and healthier uses, but right now they don't.

@amberage@eldritch.cafe @cwebber@social.coop it's certainly got a lot of indicators that are bad already and show the ways it's likely to get worse when the time comes for the investors to set it on fire. The value I see in it is mostly in the users there - a lot of good people now, not just the OG navel gazing shitposters and Resistance grifters that are the stereotype - and the fact they're slowly getting exposed to decentralization and other Fediverse concepts. It'll make it easier to bring them here eventually imo

@cwebber@social.coop I fully expect BS to be a target in the near future. It may be a little longer than a year, because it will have more value to asset-strip if they let its user growth continue for a year or two, plus it could end up being a big honeypot for lefty users. All that said, right now it's a useful transitional platform for many coming off Twitter and Meta, and hopefully provides a bridge to either a decentralized version of itself, or a Fediverse that has used the time wisely for improvements

@hackbyte @prachisrivas@masto.ai @renchap@oisaur.com I'm speaking about the cultural realpolitik of the Fediverse and the specific user concerns of the subset of Fedizens who have experienced weaponized quotes as tools of abuse and harassment on other platforms. Launching a quote feature without that control would be divisive, possibly explosive, and could lead to additional forks and drama. Detailed arguments aside I respect their concerns and so support the control. It may well be "necessary but not sufficient"

@hackbyte @prachisrivas@masto.ai @renchap@oisaur.com yes, it's a constant back and forth and all solutions are partial and imperfect. But I don't agree with your latter position at all, and since the matter is already settled in the roadmap there's no real point in debating the abstraction.
