Can anyone clarify the relationship between The Type Founders and the foundries they own?

Is “own” the correct term here?

Do they own different percentages of these foundries?

Are they investing funds into these foundries?

The Type Founders is also owned by a private equity firm, right? Does anyone remember which one?

The organization feels so shrouded in mystery to me and am trying to understand it better.

At the beginning of the month I made the Type Foundry Directory shuffle all of the entries by default (which will hopefully help designers discover new foundries).

And now you can quickly change the sort order by clicking on the sort option next to the Name heading.

@Okay @ryan I am working on something akin to this at https://typeface.directory But I sort of feel the opposite where in order for it to be useful to me as a designer, I don’t want it to include everything. (Ah shit, upon second read I am realizing this is about font ID not discovery… sorry!)

@Fountain One consideration for this: Once the font size is manually adjusted, remove the fit-width attribute even if someone changes the font style. That way it creates a lot less jumpiness if someone is trying to toggle between styles after setting a specific font size. You could perhaps have a reset button or some sort of icon (↔️) to re-fit the type to the width.
