I know somebody that has to drive 20 miles one way to go to the nearest grocery store. Europeans simply have no idea just how big the United States is and unless you live in maybe a half-dozen cities, a car is required to stay alive. Even in ATL where we have a subway and bus service and bike trails and the lot you still need a car because MARTA and the bus don't run frequent enough nor cover 90% of the area that you need to go to.

I don't think Americans pity anybody else's tax rate. You don't think most Americans don't know our for-profit healthcare system sucks? Do you think Americans honestly want to launch GoFundMes? SCOTUS has made it all but impossible for actual Americans to do fuck-all about anything. Citizens United basically allowed every politician to be openly bought and paid for.
Edit for the benefit of my European brothers and sisters:
We do not have a parliament. We are not even a democracy.
We are a Constitutional Republic. Our President isn't even democratically elected!
We elect State "Electors" that in-turn ELECT the President.
And there is FUCK-ALL any American citizen (or even group of Americans) can do to change or fix things WHEN WE HAVE A SUPREME COURT THAT IS ACTIVELY WORKING AGAINST US.
I think that's the biggest thing Europeans dont have a grasp on.

Isn't it "tay-oh-te-wakkin"? I don't think I've ever tried to pronounce it. My ex husband is Puerto Rican but my Spanish skills are weak at best.
Had to make the difficult decision today to close nsfw.social and nsfw.lgbt on April 30th because frankly our server and hosting costs have risen sharply this year and we simply can't afford to fund it ourselves any longer. It's eating into both mine and George's household budgets.
For the love of god stop using US and American software, tools, and services.

Have you seen our American Military? They no longer have muskets and bayonets any more. They have tanks and MRAPs and an unlimited supply of weapons and ammunition.
Do you honestly think any American, let alone even a "well armed milita" (words in the 2nd Amendment) can honestly stand up to the US Military? ISIS tried. Al Qaeda tried. The Taliban tried. And they were a helluva lot better armed (not to mention their home-turf advantage) and they couldn't.
So what makes you think any American citizen can?

We know it's not normal but other than complain about it there's really not much we can do about it. He's a vile, malignant, and wretched man. At least most of the stuff he's doing can be easily undone when he's gone. And I'm not too worried about the East Wing since it didn't even exist until 1914 or so. It can be rebuilt.

Oh yeah. We flew down there at least every 6-8 weeks or so. Usually just for the weekend to see the in-laws. I <3 Puerto Rico! I love the people, I love the food, I love the culture. The fact they aren't a State is a national disgrace in my opinion.
His family lives in Caguas which is pretty close to San Juan. I wish the flight was shorter. We'd usually fly out of ATL in the evening on Friday and get to the hotel very early Saturday morning and we'd spend all weekend with the family. There's a red-eye* out of San Juan that gets back in ATL around lunch time so those Mondays I just worked half-days.
*And because I know someone will try to correct me... the earliest flight out is 6:15am and I've always referred to the first flight out from a city as the "red-eye" no matter what time of day it is.

This is actually pretty ingenious considering restaurant health codes require the "Employees Must Wash Hands" sign in bathrooms, but they've enhanced it to encourage patrons to wash their hands, too.
