I am the clouds, I am embroidered

Triangle wins

Polarized, tell me what colours do you wear

R, Rust, mesh, GDAL, map projections, oh yeah and Python

Single GDAL, single PROJ, single GEOS, R packages and Python packages linking the same libraries, reticulate bridging cleanly between them, modern numpy, modern Python, modern R, current GDAL master available or latest release

Don't you all want that? I finally have it

#RStats Once in a while, run R CMD check --no-examples and R CMD check --no-tests separately, with _R_CHECK_FORCE_SUGGESTS_=false. The default check ordering plus default Suggests-handling masks bugs that surface only in second-phase code or only when Suggests are absent.

also that blog post is clearly drafted by an AI, not saying that's evil I'm definitely guilty of it - but you can see the tone after a long debug-slog, it's obvious

@ctoney I think the days of relying on old remotes behaviour is numbered, and I'd rather get a list of sysreqs from a plan, then decide rather than let it control everything maybe there's deeper capacity already in there

@ctoney@fosstodon.org nice! In Melbourne it's the diag river by the CBD vs the grid across the province In Sydney it's the first (colonial) track (George St) vs the diag climb up to Bondi Junction (Oxford street), and Sydney is pure chaos triangles

RE: @mdsumner@rstats.me

finally, a sufficient demonstration: https://gist.github.com/mdsumner/1b38b300f7dc6e0a8cdfa3cd8fbc84ce

aligned PROJ/GEOS/GDAL and equally capable cli and R and Python, in a simple series of docker images

why is it only today I now understand that 1) bash functions can be *pasted* in to a session 2) they run with 'fun arg' and 3) are the same as C/R syntax with {} and ; for lines, or just newlines

fun() { local a="$1"; echo "$a"; }
fun abc
abc

I have a colleague who gave this talk once but I was distracted on some spatial code or whatever and I totally vagued on all of it. Now I need that Evi Nemeth wonderful book, those chapters on python and perl are fantastic ...

@ctoney I'm not sure I agree 💯 but I definitely would like it to be configurable. There's a magic balance of "use the libs I compiled from source, and everything else just package sys*. Are we that rare, you and me and the others in R that compile GDAL? Maybe

The lack of education situation in Tasmania so bad, a lot of people who ruined the UTAS future think they *are smarter than a university*

If you blame Rufus Black you by definition are outing yourself as totally ignorant

@JensWiesehahn@fosstodon.org appreciate that! - you might browse the writings here https://github.com/mdsumner/gdal-r-python mostly harvested from ai-convos, but it's readable and practical - otherwise recent repos on gh mdsumner/ and hypertidy/ are mostly with good readmes. There's a couple of posts in draft for hypertidy.org ....
