@bloor@bloor.tw @greem@cyberplace.social Thanks for the update :) Nice story - glad it all worked out for you smoothly in the end, must have been massively frustrating up to that point!

@fluffy@plush.city @elithebearded@fed.qaz.red @whitequark@social.treehouse.systems It's not that in this case - here you're buying 30% of one dwelling, and then paying rent on the 70% you don't own. The advantage would be that the rent is cheaper, and that you can buy a property progressively (the "staircase" thing it refers to means "buy further percentages as&when you can afford them" - up to 75% in this case) rather than having to have enough to buy a whole property all at once. Not sure I'd do it myself, but might work well for some!

@Edent Here's what I'd do: Imagine if the FOI comes back with the most boring, non-story answer possible. Is there still a story? If so, publish now. If the FOI comes back making the story bigger, publish an update ("Breaking news: Big story is Even Bigger!"). Even if it just confirms the story in the details, update ("FOI proves it, Story is True!"). And if the FOI comes back as a nothing - no need for an update, the story stands on its own. If there isn't in that case--wait for the FOI.

@barbra@social.vivaldi.net @david_chisnall@infosec.exchange Good points, but worth noting that (1) trams exist, so road sharing is possible (if not always practical!), and (2) rather than double tracks all the way, you only need to have passing loops at the points where opposing trains cross, which can reduce the cost greatly (in the right situation).

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @whitequark@social.treehouse.systems So much this... definitely one of the main reasons I find claims of "Semantic versioning solves all your versioning problems" frustrating... the other being that interface contracts are very rarely tightly specified enough to be certain that any given change is "non-breaking" (if only in an https://xkcd.com/1172/ sense!)

@moira@mastodon.murkworks.net @foone@digipres.club Yeah - they could feed the paper 1/3 of a dot to achieve better vertical resolution. (The command for Epson-alike printers was ESC J ... why can I remember that, but not what days to put the bins out?!)

Replying to
@xgranade Regarding the footnote - what's that referring to? I'd always believed mypy at least tried to apply mathematical type-checking rules (to the extent possible in a language where the formal type system has largely been retrofitted). What sort of thing does it fall short on?

@eco-g @openrightsgroup Good questions, definitely, but I don't think it's an app that people download? I got the impression it's something the councils set up on their end, the drivers can just use any of the supported apps to pay (and so you get to choose who steals your data 😉). Is that not the case?

Replying to
@xgranade Thanks for the pointer to the other thread - from the discussion there I have more of an idea of where you're coming from. I'll have a think about it all! Would it be fair to say that the issue isn't quite "mypy is not a type checker", so much as "mypy is a (possibly helpful) type checker, with a (definitely unhelpful) linter bolted on"? As in, it does check types and raise errors if they're wrong, but also raises errors for other stuff too in a way that can negate its usefulness?

@alexhaydock I mean, Ethernet-over-HDMI (HEC) is a thing - maybe it's that? Though I'm not sure I've ever actually seen one in the wild... I too would love to know what this is about :)

Yes, this specific one seems to limit the occupant's ownership to 100%, but not all schemes do that - i.e. in some the occupant can eventually purchase the property outright.

@xgranade@wandering.shop You might want to clarify the poll wording to "If you're seeing the poll above when..." - assuming of course that that's what you mean: this one appeared first for me, and was quite confusing until I realised there was another poll!
